There has been much hype around distributed computing and where blockchains come in the picture, everyone loves blockchains and distributed computing. But everyone seems to be lacking the way of actually figureing out how to manage one.
Recent Hypes on Distributed Computing
In the recent times there has been much hype around projects like Golem and iEx.ec. Projects that has no working platform, doesn't reward anything and doesn't do anything like distributed computing as of today. They go all out banging on their drums screaming that they have "the next big thing just around the corner". But they are just a little to late for the party.
Gridcoin does all this today, with a 20+ Years open-source platform!
Gridcoin utilizes the BOINC platform, an open-source GitHub project, that anyone can create a project for utilizing hundred of thousands of CPUs, GPUs and a ton of memory and hard drive space.
@cm-steem writes Why Gridcoin Beats Golem Hands Down - NateOnTheNet.
A platform with 4 million+ registered users, ½ million active daily, the BOINC platform has a vastly built community.
Gridcoin already rewards users for distributed work
The Gridcoin network already runs and rewards users every day for task that they perform. Anyone can chose any of the, today, 25 projects that are on the list of available projects, and get rewards instantly and seamlessly. The network are open and welcoming.
An even, fair and available cryptocurrency
Like all cryptocurrencies Gridcoin rewards "miners" with rewards. For all the work that is done on any of the verified projects a user is rewarded for their exact share of the work out of all the coins generated for the day. On top of that there is 1.5% Yearly Interest for all coin holders.
Compare this to Bitcoin that does it trough a process of mindless mathematical process, and the one that finds the right hash gets all the new coins.
Need work done?
The Gridcoin network are always looking for new and interesting projects to reward that runs on the BOINC platform. Do you need work done that can be distributed, then BOINC and Gridcoin is your very true friend!
A quick tutorial on how to make a BOINC Project in 10 minutes, you'll be amazed on what we already have!
You send the work and we take care of the payments. You're project can keep running as non-profit organizations since you are in no way affiliated with the payments send out on the network.
What is Gridcoin?
Gridcoin is a cryptocurrency which securely rewards BOINC computation (volunteer distributed computing projects which attempt to cure diseases, map the milkyway, search for extraterrestrial life, etc) on top of proof of stake.
Anyone can create a BOINC project to create a distributed cloud service of their own desire, we can reward your users on your behalf as opposed to you paying for computation up front.

Reason for the article
The reason I wrote this post was because of Coin Telegraph making another, very inaccurate, post about Distributed Computing and making claims that Golem, iEx etc and that blockchain in itself is the solution.
Tired of ICO and the lack of substantial products
So many people write about how they are scammed out of ICO releases and promises of great products to come soon. These are no other than that!

I had a good laugh reading that article! I think Michael Jackson is really "I am waiting for the blockchain to do my computations" :)

Well done Jon Buck (author on cointelegraph) you put the absolute minimum effort into that article.
I see newbie efforts on steemit that have much deeper understanding of subject matter, and attention to detail.

It is one of the few coins that rises in price even after 2-3 years. And quite a bit this year!
