Seven more days for the mandatory wallet update

in gridcoin •  6 years ago  (edited)

Hi everyone!

In few minutes, the Gridcoin network will generate the block with the number 1413000, giving us seven more days before the algorithm will activate the CBR hard fork. The hard fork will enable the Constant Block Rewards mechanism, and before this date, everybody should update their wallet to version 4.0.0!

Why is this important? Because when block 1420000 will come, the upgraded wallets will switch to the new algorithm, and everybody left with an older version of the wallet will remain on the old branch of the Gridcoin blockchain. With the majority of the users will switch to the version 4.0.0, the transaction on the old blockchain will no longer be recognized as valid.

I just verify the last generated Superblocks, and it looks that we go in the right direction: all Superblocks generated in the last nine days are coming from a version 4.0.0:

Please don't forget to update your wallet!

There are only seven more days to go...

Sorry to butt in and sorry for my ignorance, but how would you update it? Is there a place to just click on? Or is it more complicated and I'd have to have a CS Degree from Stanford or MIT to do it?

It depends, of course, on your operating system. What system do you have?

On my Ubuntu Linux machine, all I had to do was to open a terminal window and to type
sudo apt-get upgrade.

I'm using Windows and I just downloaded v4 here. I went through a simple GUI installation procedure of the wallet and after five minutes I was up and running again.

Thank you very, very much for that link! I appreciate it very much. Peace.

Awesome we are due up for a blackswan or 5 and getting shrugged off by the whales ( GRC8 ) our " trusted " community members , if you do not mind your PoR all going to 1 person as a lump sum along with its about time for multiple forkings and dropped projects and then a rush to recode what ever recently changed code to fix it as our value drop even lower then this all time low... Anybody else notice it has dropped lower and lower since July 2017 when a now dev hacked Gridcoin and exploited a flaw in the code and hacked the neural network ? Mind you there are security issues up the ass left and right , I refuse to disclose them seeing as it was supposed to be a community dev project not just a team of " the only allowed dev's " and I am just a peon user and we are not all equal and our voices are not equal and there is ignorant transparency and favoritism. I guess that is why Rob Halford cashed out his 80million GRC and washed his hand of Gridcoin this past week for his new project BiblePay. Also fyi /src/test/DoS_tests.cpp is LULZ and how about DDOS? Hermmm ponderous.
