New Twitter contributors - community poll launched today!

Twitter Header.jpg

After the last article (Twitter contributors wanted), @grider123 has valiantly stepped forward and volunteered for Gridcoin Twitter! Since two new contributors were proposed, I have decided to volunteer also. Therefore, I think it's time to move ahead with this and to create a corresponding community poll with a single question: Do you support grider123 (aka gridcoin2moon on Slack) and vortac as the new contributors to Gridcoin Twitter?

@grider123 is known for his website https://gridcoin.ch which has received a huge update last month, be sure to check it out. Also, he has written a lot of interesting aticles about Gridcoin here on Steemit and on Whaleshares, so I am sure he will do a good job on our Twitter too. Also, he is active on Gridcoin Slack where he is known as gridcoin2moon and on Reddit where is known as /u/p1C4k3.

As for myself, I've been with SETI@home since 1999, closely following all things related with distributed computing and associated scientific projects. I have joined Gridcoin in November 2015, starting my crypto-journey. Currently running the "New Marketing Initiative" which was approved last year and I am absolutely dedicated in helping Gridcoin through this longer-than-usual bear market.

Vote through your Gridcon wallets and support our efforts to expand and improve Gridcoin Twitter. With your votes, we can increase our current Twitter staff to four people, all well-known community members: @cm-steem and @quezacoatl1 as admins (already volunteering) plus @grider123 and myself as contributors. That looks like a great team to me and I am certainly looking forward to working with them!

Dear @vortac and @grider123,

Can you both post some example twits so that we can judge if you are up to the task? I am unable to infer this from the individual properties that you listed(having a website, being a member since 2015), and this is important for my vote.

That's a very good idea, thanks for suggesting it zamaza! I wanted to do it before (in the article itself) but didn't want to make it too long (and too braggy).

Anyway, here are the tweets I have put together for Gridcoin Twitter in the past:

Fast radio bursts:
https://twitter.com/GridcoinNetwork/status/1083877493881401344

World Community Grid and beacon4science:
https://twitter.com/GridcoinNetwork/status/1063635898150072320

Powerful stellar stream in our galactic neighborhood:
https://twitter.com/GridcoinNetwork/status/1061665728686899201

Smash Childhood Cancer project:
https://twitter.com/GridcoinNetwork/status/1061280002791084032

Is Oumuamua an Alien Light Sail?
https://twitter.com/GridcoinNetwork/status/1060593154787893248

As you can see, I especially like to tweet about interesting science projects currently associated with BOINC. If people start to crunch for those projects, they are only one step away from joining Gridcoin. More tweets can be found on my Twitter account: https://twitter.com/Vortac9

This is a good idea. To be honest, I don't have a Twitter account at the moment and therefore no example tweets to show my skills...
However, I am (and will continue to) acquire specific social media marketing skills. If there are community members who know more about it and maybe even have professional experience, I am willing to give up my claims =)

Forgot to post - I support this proposal, nobody else volunteered for the positions.

I will do it as soon as I arrive home this evening!
Good work @vortac and @grider123 and also for the rest of the twitter staff.

I'm happy to see twitter team expanding. I hope to see more tweets covering BOINC scientific news and wider Gridcoin ecosystem.

On the side note, I see a lot of discussions in the comments on unrelated stuff like which platform this thread should be published on. This should be discussed in a separate governance / policies thread. Agreed rules we can stamp on blockchain for future validation. Here we should only discuss whether poll is valid (run according to rules governing polls) and poll topic related thoughts, ideas and concerns.

Congratulations @vortac! You received a personal award!

Thank you for the witness votes you made to support your Steem community and for keeping the Steem blockchain decentralized

"at first i thought adding more people to the twitter team was a nice idea but now that i think about it, it will actually serve to centralize power around those approved by the poll since they can dismiss everyone elses input on the basis of them not being poll approved. furthermore its inappropriate to use steemit instead of reddit or cryptocurrencytalk for a discussion url, since signing up on steemit requires paying them money."

it will actually serve to centralize power around those approved by the poll since they can dismiss everyone elses input on the basis of them not being poll approved.

I don't understand. Could Nethlek elaborate in reddit thread, if he has no account on steem?

That thread was created less than an hour ago

they can dismiss everyone elses input on the basis of them not being poll approved.

If you want to have real input, volunteer for the position & get vote approval.

furthermore its inappropriate to use steemit instead of reddit or cryptocurrencytalk for a discussion url, since signing up on steemit requires paying them money.

You don't need to invest to get an account, fair enough if you want an account today you would need to pay like $5-10 for an account from a 3rd party service, but Steem has been out for coming on 3 years now, take 5 mins to make an account.

Both reddit and cryptocointalk are not free from potential censorship.

Apparently, grc-lib-front speaks for Nethlek too, so you just spammed the same nonsense twice, well done.

check the time, my post was about 3h earlier than his

Did you even bother to check the timestamps?

They should have checked the timestamps before posting duplicate nonsense. Why should I do that for people who cannot even coordinate posting one comment on Steemit? Capable guys, no doubts.

This is just a bunch of factual errors, disinformation and plain dumbness.

  1. It advocates total passivity and doing nothing, since everything approved by the polls is carried out by some members of the community. For example, the New Marketing Initiative approved last year is currently carried out by me - this is not called 'centralization', but volunteering. The dev work is done by our fixed team of devs, shall we sack them all because they are 'centralizing' the development of Gridcoin too much?

  2. Signing up on Steemit is free, but the process takes 1-2 weeks. Only instant access requires a small fee. On the other hand, so called "Reddit Premium" costs $6 per month -> no such nonsense on Steemit!

Signing up on Steemit is free, but the process takes 1-2 weeks. Only instant access requires a small fee. On the other hand, so called "Reddit Premium" costs $6 per month -> no such nonsense on Steemit!

First off, this doesn't address the main point Nethlek was trying to make: That Steemit is not instant access. If someone wants to comment on the poll you're telling them to wait 1-2 weeks to post a comment?! On reddit creating an account is free and takes a few seconds.

What does reddit premium have to do with anything? It's absolutely not required to post, and just removes ads from the site. Which is funny, because Steemit has ads now, and there is nothing you can do to remove those...

This poll was discussed on Slack for like two months, on various channels (official-social-media, marketing, poll-drafts etc). I was present in every channel and no one has raised any serious objections, except those made up fears about "Steemit monetization" but that was already decided on a different poll and has nothing to do with this one. Steemit content has already been approved for our Twitter.

Of course, you know all this very well, since you are a Gridcoin dev and veteran and have participated in those polls and discussions on Slack yourself. But, it seems that you have conveniently forgotten that and now you are acting 'surprised'... because no one is able to comment the poll? Ridiculous.

If it takes 1-2 weeks, it has some merits. Instant sign up might be important for making ad-hoc anonymous accounts to spam etc. (possible to create alt account on steem too, but not on a whim or paid). Second important thing is that valuable voice we can expect from members that have some knowledge about ecosystem, so instant sing up is not important.

The root problem here is almost no governance rules for the project and little will to create such rules or to set them up in motion.

The root problem here is almost no governance rules for the project and little will to create such rules or to set them up in motion.

Community guidelines and code of practice/conduct are easily introducable to the Gridcoin-Community github organisation and to how we evaluate poll outcomes. Governance rules elsewhere contradict the decentralized nature of crypto, imo.

There's nothing stopping anyone from taking this discussion elsewhere. Create a few threads on alternative platforms then link them in these comments, problem completely solved.

Which is funny, because Steemit has ads now, and there is nothing you can do to remove those...

You can run an ad blocker to be fair

You could say the same thing about reddit. The entire "reddit premium" argument is moot.

I'm not arguing that case 🤷‍♂️

Coming from an account literally masquerading as an official gridcoin account? Hypocrisy

gridcoin liberation front

Sounds like a cyber terrorist organization 😂

Here's my very in-depth perspective on this proposal, and how it relates to our social media management in the bigger picture:

Comment from Nethlek
yesterday i raised concerns about your choice of platform for a discussion url and how the poll could be served to concentrate power among those mentioned by it and you chose to respond to me with insults. you called me stupid, accused me of "causing a ruckus" and harming our marketing efforts all because i dared criticize your methods. your conduct has been deeply unprofessional and i no longer believe you should be allowed access to our twitter if you can't handle criticism without immediately resorting to insults. if anything would be harmful to our marketing efforts it would be having our social media controlled by someone with such little impulse control. you continuously ignore the point i was making, that steemit is an ill suited platform for open and free discussion. you argue with that steemit content was community approved, which is a non-sequitur because we're not talking about sharing content, we're talking about its viability as a free an open discussion platform. likewise your argument that reddit is just as bad because we only control our subreddit and not the whole website is equally fallacious, not to mention incredibly disingenuous. furthermore cct is not dead just because there's little activity on there. the website is still very much online and perfectly viable as a discussion platform since unlike steemit, signing up take mere moments and doesn't require you to give them your phone number to be sold to advertisers. you keep mentioning that nobody objected on slack ahead of time which is once again disingenuous because for one, discussions about polls are supposed to occur when they go live (hence the existence of discussion urls) and for another, no one could know ahead of time you were going to choose an ill suited platform for discussion, just as no one could have known that you would exclude the majority of the twitter team from your post. you completely failed to mention noah, neuralminer, an0n, barton and geebell as part of the team, which would effectively result in their removal from it should your poll pass. that combined with your blatant hostility and the condescension with which you have chosen to approach this issue has me questioning your intentions behind this poll. at any rate, your conduct has been appalling and my "no" now represents opposition to your appointment in addition to my previous concerns. good day

Hi Vortac

I'm writing you on behalf of a group of Steemians who recently started a discussion and decision-making forum for STEEM-Investors. And we would gladly see you joining us!

Is there a way to reach you on Discord?

Cheers,
Shaka

Hello shaka, I am vortac#6150 on Discord

just wanted to ask if you are aware that you vote on the steemsports-es posts. There has been a lot of vote farming with old accounts/kept posting authorities, that is why I am asking.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I don't personally vote on steemsports-es posts, nor I follow that account. But, I am a member of steemvoter.com and they can use some of my VP to upvote content of their choosing, once per day.

Hi @vortac

I'm not sure how could I reach out to you so I decided to comment your own comment and say 'thank you' for supporting my work and @project.hope with your valuable upvote.

Appreciate it.
Yours, Piotr

  ·  5 years ago (edited)

Thank you, Piotr. I appreciate your contributions to Steemit very much, I will add you to my Steemvoter autovote list.

P.S. Sorry for late reply

Dear @vortac

Those are very encouraging words. Appreciate them a lot.

I've just visited your profile just to notice that you didn't post in very long time already. Did you give up on Steemit?

I also figured that since you're supporting me - at least what I can do is to invest some of my own time and learn more about your project gridcoin.
The only question I have - is this project still alive? Just curious.

I will add you to my Steemvoter autovote list.

Lovely.
Could you please spare few minutes of your time and have a look at this discussion/proposal that I'm brainstorming with few other guys from "project HOPE"?
https://steemit.com/steemit/@coach.piotr/project-hope-and-curation-trail-on-steemauto-com-brainstorming

Perhaps you would find it worth to join our curation trail. I could "pay back" by helping you to promote your project sometime in the future within my followerbase.

Yours, Piotr

Oh yes, Gridcoin is very much alive and growing - #Gridcoin tag here is active as usual, new content is being added regularly. True, I haven't written any new articles recently, but that's just a temporary pause because I have been busy with other things - I haven't given up on Steemit either, it's still one of my favorite cryptos.

I have been checking my voting power percentages recently and looks like there's some of it left unused, so I am going to support your curation trail with 10-15% of my VP. Thank you for your support and for looking into Gridcoin.

Dear @vortac

I'm sorry for not replying earlier on. Somehow I believed that I did thank you for your support. And yet I didn't.

I have been busy with other things - I haven't given up on Steemit either, it's still one of my favorite cryptos

If you would ever write some new publications on Steemit, then please send link with me. I will gladly share it within @project.hope community and support you with few solid upvotes (we manage already over 300k SP :)

That's the best I can do to show my appreciation for your support.

ps.
Together with few core members (project.hope team) we're trying to promote our recent publication: an article explaining economy behind our non-profit community project build on STEEM blockchain.

Perhaps I could ask you to spare few minutes of your time and check it out and share your feedback with me.

I would absolutely appreciate your time. I read all comments.

ps.2.
HAPPY NEW YEAR :) Hopefully 2020 won't be as scary as many expert predict.

Cheers,
Piotr

It seems that steemvoter.com is used for some vote farming; buildteam, steemsports-es and steemsports all get this 1000s of votes. Curiously enough buildteam seems to be behind steemvoters, and most probably also the sports accounts. So all a funneling scheme.
