It's Not Really A Big Deal But...I Go Shopping For Groceries On My Front Lawn :) Here's Today's Treats!

This is a love story, a tale of a woman who planted vegetable seeds instead of lawns...

And now every day I get to harvest food just by stepping out my front door. I used a lot of this in our supper tonight, made a mean hodge podge.

And it gets even better than that. All around our home are varieties of berries growing wild, right now it's blueberry season and today I baked a pie.

It's already all gone, sorry... @hendrix22 invited his parents over so there's none left for you :( The kids are already asking me when the next one will be made, I told 'em whenever they decide to help me pick more berries LOL. That was back breaking work!

I'd love to show you a few more photos from our day today, and around our little homestead.

It was a holiday in Nova Scotia, Canada today, so Dad was home, the perfect day to go enjoy the beautiful North Atlantic ocean that we're lucky enough to have in our backyard. Our neighbours are so nice, they always let us use their dock and even their little boat. You'll never meet nicer folk than you do in this part of Canada. I know, I've travelled a LOT in this country.

Some of the cool boats in our little cove, classic Maritimes fishing boats. You see these everywhere here.

IMG_7766.JPG

And I don't just plant food, I do plant flowers as well. The bees have sure been loving the sunflowers!

And I can't show you around without including our Feathered Family (don't want them to feel left out and stop laying eggs lol they know they are Steemit Stars).

IMG_7800.JPG
Grace and a lot of chicks, looks like some of the other Mother hens have left her babysitting, because those are not all hers.

IMG_7804.JPG
Mr. Pendock, the father of the 36 baby chicks that just hatched. Well done Ser.

IMG_7802.JPG
Don't you just love the colours on her! She is named Wingboots Junior.

IMG_7813.JPG
And of course how could I leave out Don King? The official Steemit chicken who was named by @mother2chicks last week.

Okay, this is turning into a lengthly post for my standards, how about just a few more photos, of my favourite flower, the Cosmo. These bad boys can grow up to 10 feet tall!

IMG_7778.JPG

IMG_7771.JPG

Okay, I lied about it being over...how bout just a few more photos of some poppies? HAHAA now you can see why I'm always so happy...

IMG_7783.JPG
These are all my seeds, I'm just waiting for the pod to turn brown then it's time to bring them inside.

IMG_7784.JPG
Beautiful poppy flower hey?

Ok, this is really going to be it I promise...Have a great evening my fellow Steemians! Rock on :)

I love it! Glad you had a great civic holiday, I was helping out at the sheep farm.

Right on, what kind of help were you up to?

We finished building a new pen, moved 80 sheep and a donkey to the new pen, and did some yard clean-up to make room for a barn.

Oooh that's a lot of work! Wow...

This post was featured in Cool Stuff Curation! Thank you for being awesome!

Read it here.

Awww!!! How KIND of you!!!! :) :) :) COOOL!!! Thank you beautiful @jessamynorchard!!

I am so jealous!!!! Jealous in the absolute best way possible 😉 How beautiful & delicious & peaceful. I live in a place where the houses are just a few yards away from each & in a desert so it's very hard to grow .....anything. I want to start a tower garden at least. This is just amazing & how we dream to live someday

I hope all your dreams come true GonzalesTruth! I totally understand about living where the houses almost touch. That's how I grew up and spend most of my life. It's so great to be a part of nature now <3

Looks like a great day! I'm envious of all those beautiful veggies.

Thank you Greenie, we definitely know we are blessed :) I wish more people could be able to grow!

FABULOUS post!
What a great bounty and a beautiful homestead you have

Thank you VERY much for coming over!

Looks awesome, that's a really good haul for one day. Now come help me plant my 5 acres! My black thumb is not improving.

Ooh no, not a black thumb! LOLOL I would LOVE to be able to come and help you, too bad we're so far away from each other :( :(

It's only a few thousand miles, in another country. It is on the same continent too!

Well that's looking on the bright side hahahahaaa :) See you soon then! :)

The happiness on your face in the first photo reminds me of two things. The happiness on my face when I had my own garden and joy and pride it gave me know I'm eating food that I myself grew.

The second thing it reminds me of is the happiness on my face when I landed in Bangkok Thailand yesterday. The familiar sights, sounds, smells.....not only gave me goose bumps but also put a smile on my face from ear to ear. You are certainly in your element on the homestead as I too am in mine with two dollar thai curries and exotic budhist temples and culture.

I'm sure your produce tastes as good as it looks. Keep up the good work!

-Dan

It sounds like you really feel at home in Thailand. I certainly have enjoyed any of the Thai foods I have tried so far in life, I could only imagine that it's 100% better to eat it in Thailand though! :) I'm glad you are having such a wonderful experience being there right now :)

Thank you for your two super kind comments. Yes I love it here. I mean this country has so much to offer it's unreal. I like to think of it as first world at third world prices. Which basically means it's a big time "pay less get more country" That's always a good thing. Thai food in the US and Canada doesn't really compare. The 2 dollar green curry I had yesterday blows the 15 dollar green curry out of the water I had back in the states just last week. I'm back to loving life. Maybe it will reflect in my posts. We'll see. Glad you are right at home with your garden and family. Keep up the great work!

Dan

<3 <3 Ahhhh you're making me want to catch my first flight out of here Dan!AHHAAH I can't wait to read your upcoming posts, and be sure to get some nice pics of the food eh?!

My tomorrow morning, I'll have a great post sharing the incredible day I had with my new friend/translator/tourguide I met on the plane, named Pup. Super cool kid (24). Helped me buy a new (used) camera. 16mega pixels, rechargeable, samsung one year old for 50 dollars. So my photos should be way better now.

I'm flattered by how intrigued you are with my travels. However you are living the life I would be if I had kids, a family, and a stable home. I think that is super commendable, and incredibly wholesome. I really love how rich and wholesome your life is. Do you home-school your children? That is probably the rout I'd go this day and age, especially in the states. If I'm ever ready to settle down I'm sure you can teach me a thing or two.

I'll have some decent food pics tomorrow and make a point to make better ones with you in mind! Thanks again for the encouraging words. -Dan

Yes, this is a great life for the children, and for our raising them. I do want to homeschool them acutally! I homeschooled my eldest son for 1 year while we were travelling across Canada, trying to find our perfect place to Land, to Live. Unfortunately for me though, my kids are all super social butterflies, and they LOVE school! AHHAHAA And me being the open minded Mom I am, I don't want to force my beliefs on them, so I let them go, but they know the door is always open to learn at home.

The school they go to here, only has 50 students in the whole school, so I am happy that they are happy there. Small classrooms and a laid back, country approach to children and learning . Also, my kids receive "re-education" from me daily when the school teaches them only one side of any story, I make sure to fill them in on the rest of the story and encourage them to find more answers on their own too. :)

I'm looking forward to those food pics !!! HAHAHAHAA!!!! I'll be watching my feed for it. Congrats on the awesome camera find too! :)

Thanks for sharing your day! The area where you reside looks almost like what I imagine heaven to be :)

Thanks for loving it Homalinadir! :) I'm happy you are a fellow Nature Lover!

Mr. Pendock is one helluva stud. Haha.

Yes, he is quite dignified hey? Needs a tiny monocle, top hat and cane if you ask me :)

Yes! haha. Proud handsome fella. Over here we call these type of chickens "Ayam Katik"

Ahh I had to look it up, so it means Bantam? As in a small breed?

I think that's Indonesian translation. But similar, yea. Small.

Aww, I'll pass along your kind words to Mr. Pendock lol :)

What a wonderful post to end my day on.

Have a great evening @lyndsaybowes

You have a great rest, and I'm glad to hear these photos brought you joy <3

Growing your own food on your own land is definetly a BIG deal. Congrats to you guys on your success!!!!

Aw, you're so sweet, thank you for your support and encouragement! :)

What a little paradise you live in... it looks so nice! And the veges straight out of the garden.. pure luxury ;)

Thank you very much :)

Hi Lyndsay, Such a great garden and harvest you have coming in. Is that a Red Romaine in the lettuce rows, if so how does the flavor compare to the green? The sunflowers are beautiful too, we harvested our seeds about a month ago and are starting the next round now. Good luck with everything.

Yes, that is red romaine, I guess it's a tad more bitter than the green romaine. I choose it for the colour <3 <3 You're already planting more sunflowers? Wow, you must live in an amazing climate! Where are you at?

It all looks amazing. Its such a good feeling to bring in food you harvested!

Yes, truly hard to keep the smile off the face hey?

Gorgeous photos, looks like some beautiful land! I'd love to visit Canada in the summer

Thank you, and you would Love the Maritimes! I hope you get to come one day Jeff :)

It looks like a great day to spend on the homestead....
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for coming over :) :)

Great day, great veggies and great chickens. Loving life

Hey girl, new follower here. Those are beautifull pictures! Followed, upvoted and resteemed!

Thank you so much for enjoying our little piece of heaven Hewett! :) I appreciate it!

Love your front yard! Sure saves on the food bill. Nice to meet other Canadians here on Steemit.

Glad you like the idea, and yes, summer grocery shopping is pretty fabulous out on the front lawn! Can't beat those prices :) :) Very nice to meet you too Cecicastor! Where abouts in Canada are you?

We used to live in Ontario (terrible winters) but have since started a homestead in Nicaragua. You can take the girl out of Canada, but you can't take Canada out of the girl!

Oooh Just beautiful, well done! I'm so happy you get to have such warm pleasant weather now. And that you are homesteading there! I bet you are learning and teaching a lot!

Love seeing people's garden! How awesome and beautiful to be surrounded by all that nourishing life. Thanks for more inspiration!

Oh you're very welcome and thank you for coming and checking out our little homestead <3 <3
