If we love Jesus that means that we are growing in him, it means that we are building first of all that inner temple that is in our hearts, and then that collective body with Jesus at the head that is the church, the communion of believers; this is what Paul taught us in the first epistle to the Corinthians.
But Paul, first of all, told us that first to achieve this spiritual goal, we must abandon the works of the flesh with a sincere conversion, if we are worldly we cannot build with Christ, the search for apparent goods leaves us with a deep inner emptiness and limits us to immaturity; if we are immature we resemble that fig tree that when Jesus passes near it, it does not bear fruit.
The spiritual maturity can only be achieved through the new spiritual birth, through the action of the Holy Spirit, which grants us the love of God: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" Matthew 22:37.
The Kingdom of God is not a static doctrine, but instead dynamic, the kingdom of Jesus can be compared to that seed that grows until it becomes a fully developed tree, and this is what Jesus taught us with the parable of the mustard seed: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches" Matthew 13:31-32.
One of the main characteristics of the Kingdom of Jesus is progressivity, that is, building, this is the reason of why Paul taught us: "By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ" 1 Corinthians 3:10-11.
