Recently a Motherboard writer reached out to write a story about Steemit, Corin Faife. You may still have time to share your story before it's published:
https://steemit.com/steem/@corintxt/be-part-of-a-feature-on-steem-for-vice-motherboard
I'd expect the story to come out in the next week and a flood of new users to start. One thing to point out about motherboard, and vice it has a very high geek/tech following, and people outside of cryptocurrencies. A lot of existing crypto folks have found this place, but this opens the door for a new breed.
Motherboard has an audience aware of Bitcoin and that is cryptocurrency friendly. Their video about the inside of a Chinese Bitcoin Mining Farm has 1.5 Million views.
It's related to the website http://vice.com. Vice is huge in the United States and has a HBO series covering topics from government corruption, tripping on psychedelics, ongoing conflicts and more.
Vice currently has 7 million subscribers on youtube.
Their most viewed youtube video has 19 million views
Motherboard/Vice is currently rated as the 88th most visited site in the United States and 174th globally by Alexa rankings.
Vice also has a global reach with the top 5 countries by google rankings (they don't use traffic necessarily it is a complex metric.) being Phillipines, Canada, Pakistan, United States, and Ireland.
Explosion of users
we've already crossed 50,000 users on Steemit, and I expect to see near 75,000 users in two weeks.
What this means for you
As the user base grows it becomes more difficult to stand out. Now is the time to stand out, and start building a brand on the platform. It's not going to be easy, but try hard to find a niche and appeal to the users. I'm excited about the future of the STEEM price as the value grows, and hope more and more own the token so that we can have a smooth movement on the market, and not such jagged ups and downs. Projects like this, if they continue to succeed have a great upside for investors, so consider if it's worth investing. I'm also looking at Bitshares in spare time, with Bitfinex hacked, a decentralized replacement is the best fit. It's from a lot of the same developers so although I left that crowd awhile ago, I'm starting to gain confidence, that maybe profits from Steem and the talent will pull through. We'll need to see openledger and the platform grow and improve. I'm still unclear on that market position.

This is scary but so exciting! I look forward to seeing the new tricks we will need to pull in order to stand out on this platform. It's strange that I started when this place was only like a month old, and it's already this huge! I can't wait to get to the point where we can also advertise our products too! Like the coloring books I make.

Regardless it's a reminder we still are the new ones, the early adopters. There's a time where you can capture an audience, and build your presence. If you sit idle now, it's only a matter of time that the user base explodes and it's much more difficult to stick out. That's not a bad thing for the currency, the site, but I hope this motivates all of the early others involved a bit to get going, put some steem in your engine! Looks like you're doing well congrats!

@creationlayer I agree that this is about to go viral.... On July 4th user signs were going nuts. It has slowed but seems to be picking up again. Swing by my blog to see some of whacky posts and yet some serious ones to about Powering to STEEM POWER. Anyway, drop A line if anything. Thanks again.

Thanks will do. Yes it does come in waves, but a post to CNN or something may not hit the right audience. It would probably still explode but motherboard is focused on geeks, and that's not too tough a sell.
I'm on chat feel free anyone to pm for advice etc.

Yea you never know what will make something go viral. There was an article on Slate about 'the best hoodie ever made' by a new company. They had to open like 3 warehouses after the article and are still months behind on back orders. So yeah, maybe even the right Celeb coming over could possibly get this going viral. Anyway, we are early and will have First movers advantage.
Full $Teem Ahead!

;) I worked in PR for crypto for a bit. I'm pretty sure this is going to be a splash. Most of the "big fish" want to talk about public companies, not a crypto project based on a coin. Sure ethereum, and bitcoin get attention but after years. It's out of their wheelhouse. So blockstream, coinbase etc. So we're lucky someone got that guy on here. If Zuckerberg gets on here though I'm sure we're set haha.

Imagine if one day we can use Steemit as the Chinese use Wechat Pay! The Chinese now pay everything from rent to a hot dog via Wechat Pay!

Using an excel spreadsheet, I've compiled the daily total accounts data from steemd.com (collecting the data between 16:30 and 17:00 Pacific time every day) for the last 8 days and here's how the user growth charts (with "best fit linear line", correlation value, and projected value - dotted line).
Your 75,000 members by two weeks is very close to what the best fit linear growth line suggests. Two weeks would be the 22nd of August, which comes in at about 70,000 by the projection on my chart.

great work, I wish I had made this myself for the post!. Yes I think it's a rational number. We may experience exponential growth at some point, let's wait and see. I'd wager but there isn't a wager system yet here :).

Good article CL :) . With an influx of users hopefully that'll give some bigger outside investors the confidence to pickup STEEM and SBD on Poloniex and Bittrex.
