Growth takes patience

I had this weird moment the other day. I was at the park having a conversation with a friend. We got onto the topic of this movie we'd recently watched; the main character got too arrogant and cocky, he underestimated his opponent, and he ended up losing. I then related this to this story I heard when i was younger, about the tortoise and the hare. The hare let his ego get to him and he took his time during the race as if there wasn't really a challenge. See when I was taught this story when I was younger, the moral was "slow and steady wins the race; you can be more successful by doing things slowly and steadily than by acting quickly and carelessly." But isn't the deeper meaning that the hare let his ego overtake him? Confidence is great, but overconfidence is never a good thing. There's always layers to how each individual interprets information, of course, but now I see MYSELF visualizing things in a deeper meaning, and I feel like that shows growth as a person; even if it occurred during the conversation of a children's book.
