1. Plug in your Nano S.
2. Uninstall the current version of the Ledger Bitcoin App on your Ledger Nano S.
3. Install the latest version of the Ledger Bitcoin Chrome App.
4. Open the Ledger Bitcoin Chrome App. (Make sure that "browser support" is disabled in the settings, on your device, by hitting the left button to select "x")
5. Select "Settings"
6. Select "Blockchains"
7. Select "Bitcoin Cash"
8. Select "Main"
9. Voila!
* In order to see your BTC balance once again just click "Blockchains", and then "Bitcoin".
Why pick main? They recommend picking split?

You have to choose MAIN before you can actually split those tokens. What you can do is click "Split", get a "Split" address by copying it from "Receive". And then log into MAIN, and SEND your BCH over to the address you copied, by pasting it in the SEND tab.
That will put it in a separate chain altogether, which is what is recommended. You need to get access to those coins on the main chain, basically, first.

My brain seems to think that it would be more logical to move the main BTC over to a new address for security reasons, then send the BCH to a new address. It doesn't seem like a good idea to proceed with either coin having the same private key as before?

Have you accessed the wallet from the Bitcoin Cash App ot the Bitcoin app? If from Bitcoin app then it will show that error so check it again from Bitcoin Cash wallet.

The Ledger Wallet Chrome app had a display bug issue which has been solved in the v1.8.4 which has just been published.
Please make sure that you update the Chrome app to the latest version (restart Chrome should be enough, otherwise uninstall and reinstall the Chrome app).
The bug may unfortunately have wiped the name of your accounts, as well as your settings. If this is the case, you'll have to enter them again (you'll see that the name of your accounts have been replaced by "Recovered account #x").
No funds have been at risk, and you will see all your balances and transactions normally once you have updated to the v1.8.4.

I love ledger, but this is a little more confusing than when the ethereum app added eth classic. I noticed it was weird whenever I would choose Bitcoin Cash and I could choose either main or split and the balance showed zero.
Plus, quick question. If I only want to send BTC now, do I still choose Bitcoin? Or do I have to choose Bitcoin SegWit2X?

Yes you can.
Check out which exchanges support BCC (always exercise due diligence research before sending any coin to a exchange), then send it over to your wallet on the exchange.

sooo when I did that for some reason all the transfers came under BTH (like all the transfers and withdraws) then under BTC it doesn't have any transaction but my balance is there

Ledger recommends SPLIT first, that is what I did, and it worked:
Open the Bitcoin Cash application on the Ledger device,
Open the Bitcoin Wallet Chrome app
Select Settings / Blockchains / Cash / Split
Click on Receive, write down the address : I usually copy it and paste in email or google doc temporarily...
Copy the address and then go back to the BCC Wallet app page
Select Settings / Blockchains / Cash / Main
Click on Send, paste the wallet address, and send to this address.
Give it a minute then you will have the two apps on the Ledger : BTC and BCH (Cash), and you will have an equal amount of BHC as you had BTC. Comprende ?
