Guilty Pleasure Music Challenge Week 2 Theme: Mothers

in guiltypleasuremusic •  7 years ago

When I read about @sjennon's challenge, I was just too late for the first one.
Therefore here my entry for week 2.
To those who don't know this yet: I am actually Dutch, so the song I chose is Dutch.
At first my song was going to be a rap song, but the lyrics were so damn long, I gave up.
This one is a song we used to hear all the time wherever we went, and I'm sure they still play it now in
cafes, at markets, etc. all over the place.
My dad was from Amsterdam but hated this guy...LOL. I wasn't a fan, but this song always struck some chords.

Song: De Vlieger by Andre Hazes

The kite

It was my son's birthday yesterday, he turned 8, my honey.
He asked me for a kite and that's what I gave him.
His ball, his bike, his trains, no they didn't exist.
His kite was his everything, only I didn't yet know why.

When the morning came, he said: father will you go with me.
The wind is favourable now, so I will bring my kite.
In his one hand his kite, in the other a letter.
I didn't understand it, but then my loving son said this:

I have a letter for my mother,
who is high up in heaven.
I tie this letter to my kite,
so she will receive it,
the one I miss.

And when she reads how much I love her,
that I just can't get used to the other woman.
I have a letter for my mother.
Who is high up in heaven. (3x)
