Basic Blues for Beginners - Lesson in Alternating Thumb Style

in guitarlessons •  7 years ago  (edited)

This is part 1 of a lesson for beginners in the alternating thumb style using a 12-bar blues progression in the Key of E. It'll change your game!

In part one, I cover six individual picking exercises to teach you how to set your thumb free and gain independence. You'll learn how to alternate a bass line with your thumb while picking melody notes with your fingers.

In part 1, we look at picking patterns in E major and A7. In the following lesson we will complete the blues progression by adding B7 and then play through part 1 of the whole tune.

And you included tab, thank you, I know very little guitar. I play a bit of dulcimer but at guitar just gentle strumming. Will try to do the exercise and looking forward the celtic lessons ❤️

you really know how to teach. Now I want to get the guitar.... nooooooo! hahahaha bye bye photography hahaha .;) Really good. Looking forward for more lessons.

Wow, thank you so much! I'm really encouraged to do more now. Your comments mean a lot.

Thanks @camuel! I play a little here and there but I've been meaning to get better at it. Keep them coming!

Thanks for the feedback Jeff. I plan on doing more of this sort of thing. It's new venture for me and took some courage, but I'm quite pleased how it came out and it'll get easier as I do more I hope. Keep pickin'.

You did great! Yeah, It can be hard to talk to the camera at first, but It definitely gets easier with practice.

Love the intro. You're a good instructor and an amazing guitarist. I am going to work on these exercises. Thanks for sharing.

I don't have a guitar but I have always enjoyed the melodious sound that come out of this instrument. There was a Pakistani Guitarist Amir Zaki who died I guess 6 months ago, I used to listen his guitar play regularly!

You look like a pro as well and starting this guitar tutorial thing is very unique! I am sure people who have a guitar would love your series!

Thank you for the kind comments. I just looked up Amir Zaki and am playing some YouTube videos now. I love finding new music from around the world!
