First of all, this is another clear case of why the right to bear arms is important, and I'm glad that the media aren't completely burying it. Still, I wouldn't have become aware of it if I weren't subscribed to a few pro-2A channels.
Another thing to take from this, at least so far as I can tell, is that all the pro-2A people, including me, need to stop making arguments about the impracticality of making all the guns go away, even if we are pointing out how tyrannical the government would have to become in order to try to do that. First of all, it's a dead argument because anti-2A people have a boner for tyranny, and they think that Patrick Henry was deranged. Second of all, it implies that we may be on board to press a hypothetical button that would get rid of all the guns in the world if we could. I wouldn't. I would destroy the button and scatter the pieces across every ocean. God made man, and Samuel Colt made us equal. Getting rid of guns doesn't create fair fights -- it does the opposite. It makes the elderly, the disabled, and, let's face it, in most cases, women juicier targets for bad men who are looking for victims.
Finally, I've gotta deal with another example of the gun grabbers cooking the books.
In this case, we have a defensive use of a gun. It's an obvious case of a defensive use of a gun even though the homeowner didn't hit, much less kill the invader.
One thing that gun grabbers like to do is talk about the dearth of firearm deaths from defensive uses of firearms as opposed to uses of firearms in criminal behavior.
This is dumb.
Anybody with any understanding of law, moral philosophy, or anybody who simply has proper gut instincts knows that you only engage in self-defense until the threat is no longer a threat. If you keep fighting the threat after it stops being a threat, things shift.
For this home owner, one shot that missed the bad guy was enough to get the bad guy to head dive out a window and run away. So, the home owner did what he was supposed to do -- stop shooting and let the dude run away.
Sometimes, just saying that you have a gun will get a person who is threatening you to back off. Even if it doesn't, it should be no surprise that there are fewer deaths related to guns used by people with intent to defend as opposed to guns used by people with intent to murder.
In fact, you're far more likely to survive being shot than being stabbed. Even though there are cases where bad guys have been shot more than a dozen times and kept fighting, the FBI data still show that most defensive gun fights are over after three shots are fired. A lot of people survive that. If a person fires three shots in justified self-defense, and the attacker is on the ground and incapacitated, and the defender decides to put a fourth bullet into the attacker's head for good measure, the defender just became a murderer and contributed to the left's bullshit statistic.
Bottom line, if you haven't noticed this yet, if you're on the "common sense gun control" side, I know more than you.
