The Usual Suspects: Mass Shooters, Celebrities, Hypocrisy and Gun Control

Mass Shooters and celebrities share more in common than they realize. It has been long known that most of the mass shooters were all left leaning individuals. Yes most mass shooters were registered Democrats or grew up in “progressive” leaning households. But that’s not the most important trait they share. What they share in common of most importance however is that they all crave attention, they are all emotional, hypocritical, tyrannical, narcissistic, temper tantrum throwing individuals. They are some of the most morally bankrupt group of people we live among in society.

I remember as a boy watching some great action movies. There was always this one scene where the protagonist would pull out a cache of fine weapons to exact revenge on the antagonists who have done him wrong. This has been done in countless movies, see the movie John Wick as an example. The camera would focus on him putting these weapons together with dramatic music in the backdrop. Major emphasis will also be on the weapons. He was usually focused and determined on what he was about to do to seek justice. In essence the gun was made cool, it was made sexy and it was the only tool needed to fulfill the desire for revenge.

Not much as changed since then in regards to the cool and sexualized violence coming from Hollywood and the music industry. Yet, it’s quite perplexing when these same celebs are all over the internet begging for more gun control. But its art, you can’t blame art for killing people. Can’t we? We can attribute individual cultural and societal change to art when its positive, for example being influenced by a movie to become an actor yourself. Why can’t we attribute, violence and mayhem as influence when portrayed on screens and in songs constantly? Violence is used as way to settle scores. We see this in movies and hear this in songs everyday don’t we?

Celebs have no problem blaming an inanimate object for the deaths of people. Wouldn’t it be fair to blame their artistic creations too? I mean why the self-righteous quest at times to try to use art to change the world if you didn’t believe in its effectiveness to spur change and influence people? Influence come in both positive and negative reinforcements does it not? They believe art is a very powerful medium, hence why they feel they are in a position to lecture the rest of us on how we should live our lives. It’s quite hypocritical hearing these paragons of virtue talk gun control when their industry is one of the biggest proponents of gun violence glorification for profit. We have all heard the talk of the NRA being a terrorist organization as they lobby for the gun industry. Interesting as these Celebs are usually well protected by armed personnel, who are armed because of the gun industry.

Mass shooters are to the “terrorist” NRA what Celebs are to the gun violence glorification for profit entertainment industry. In the end mass shooters and celebs share more in common than they realize. They are emotional, hypocritical, tyrannical, narcissistic temper tantrum throwing individuals who will trample on the rights of people to get what that want under the guise of doing what’s just. Don’t forget in times past actors in particular were not respected in society and were seen as having lose morals. Its hard to argue that much as change in regards to their morals. It’s still legal to think critically and freely for yourself. Don’t let a celeb do it for you.
