Amidst the aftermath of the Las Vegas Massacre, a significant number of prominent Republicans have announced their consideration of the legislation that bans “bump stocks” like the one that the Las Vegas Shooter used. While Republicans have usually opposed such bans, the Las Vegas Shooting seems to have changed their minds. Senator John Cornyn from Texas told the New York Times, “I own a lot of guns, and as a hunter and sportsman, I think that’s our right as Americans, but I don’t understand the use of this bump stock. It seems like it’s an obvious area we ought to explore and see if it’s something Congress needs to act on.”
