Woman accidentally shot by her kids: Get ready for the gun grabbers to go wild with this

I am very pro 2nd Amendment. If that makes me a toothless, brain-dead hillbilly in the eyes of the lib-ral folks out there then so be it. I am actually pretty well educated but that does seem to be the picture that anyone who is pro gun ownership seems to take. There was a time when everyone was pro gun ownership back when we were all heading west into the great unknown and had to hunt our own food and defend our property from potential marauders. Now we just have to protect our homes from potential marauders.

I had to dig a bit in order to find this image of the victim, Gabriel Henderson and I can only presume that this was not printed on most of the news sites because they are terrified of being called "racist" simply because of showing the picture of a black woman.

The stories also focus very heavily on the fact that she was a mother of 5 and that the kids found the gun and were "playing with it." Ok, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that if your kids can "find your gun" and play with it and you are not aware of it despite being in the very same room with them, you are not only a terrible gun owner but you are quite possibly a terrible parent as well. Gabriel lived in a smallish apartment, it's not like they found it in the west wing of her palace and then paraded around the grounds while the butler pursued them attempting to persuade them to stop messing about with the firearm.

So I can tell you exactly what is going to happen with this story and the media is going to use it for political reasons in an attempt to go after gun ownership. It is going to be a tragic tale of an innocent mother whose life was cut short by the evils of weapons. They will not address the fact that she had the gun in her purse and that she was shot by her own kids and that the gun was in the same room as her, loaded, while she was awake in the room with it. Safeties on guns are pretty tough for a child to "accidentally" disarm so my guess is that the safety was in the off position.

The media, and the liberals that run those organizations are going to use this situation as a reason for why we need what they refer to as "sensible gun control"... as if they actually meant something in particular.

They have not been very specific as to what type of firearm it was only to indicate that it was a semi-automatic pistol of sorts. Most handguns are semi-automatic. Previously the gun grabbers were only going after the dreaded AR-15 (I own one, it is awesome) and extended magazines, but now just sit back and wait folks, they are going to go after semi-automatic pistols finally too.

At no point in time will it be discussed that this woman is ultimately responsible for this occurrence. You have 5 kids and you know that there is a loaded handgun in your purse and you don't do anything to prevent them from getting at it? That's not the gun's fault folks.

The police department where this incident occurred already offers free gun locks to anyone who wants one and honestly, if you give a damn about your kids and you have a loaded friggin gun in your purse, you should take advantage of this.

Of course it is upsetting to me that this woman is dead and although they have not indicated it, there was no statement by the father so I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that she was a single mother and that these 5 kids are now going to be orphaned - which is terribly tragic as well. On the flip side of things though I already know that David Hogg and company are going to jump all over this and the movement to restrict gun ownership or make it outright illegal... at which point only criminals will have guns.

Get ready for a bunch of political blowhards to come out of the woodwork and attempt to use this tragedy for their own personal benefit!

My dad has a Taurus .380 which has no safety.

Not rebutting your story. Merely offering an alternative.

How old are the kids?

The reports are being very vague about the ages of the kids because they are all minors. Based on the age of the mother (25) I would guess they are all very young.

This is one reason I don't like purse-carry. If the gun is on your person, no one is going to get access to it without you knowing they did so... unless you're passed-out drunk. In which case...

But, yeah, a lot of modern handguns (and old revolvers) don't have extra safeties to separately disengage. If they are loaded and you pull the trigger, they will go bang. Which, for defensive purposes, is a good thing.

It's not really possible to make a kid-proof (or idiot-proof) gun. The best you can do is make gun-proof kids who know how to safely be around guns. Then, even if you aren't around and they encounter a gun, a tragedy will not occur.

Exactly. Now I don't have any children but my friends and neighbors do and they take them shooting and make certain they are very aware of the dangers and also how to correctly use said weapons and drill into them that these are not toys.
