Problem With Shooting Suppressed Weapons

I've been around guns all my life and have had extensive training throughout my career with all sorts of weapons including fully automatic weapons.

But until this past year, I just have started getting experience with suppressed weapons. The main picture up top is my Ruger RPR with a suppressor attached.

A few days ago, I learned something about suppressed weapons.... They get EXTREMELY dirty EXTREMELY fast!

The reason I found this out was because I was shooting this suppressed Ruger 10/22 and it started malfunctioning almost every round. This is highly unusual for a 10/22 and I suspected that the problem was she was a dirty girl and needed a good cleaning. Normally my 10/22's run several thousands of rounds before a cleaning is required but this one...ummmm, about 500.

My suspicions were correct, she was a filthy whore in need of a good scrubbing! I was schocked at how dirty she actually was.

That's just from rubbing my finger on the bottom of the bolt carrier lol.

image

I lost track of the amount of time that I spent scrubbing on her but it was quite a bit. For what should have been a simple cleaning, turned in to a pain in the arse.

I was finally able to see metal again and was satisfied that the gun might function properly once again.

Tomorrow I will load her up with some subsonic ammo and see if she cycles properly; I'm sure she will.

Stay tuned for a shootout competition between this tricked out 10/22 and my RPR Precision 10/22 to see which one wins! Thanks for your time! @bluelightbandit

that's back pressure for ya :p One of the reasons I would never shoot an AR suppressed, especially since I am left handed.

Yeah, its like shitting in the mouth of your gun lol. Its fun though, especially for bolt actions. Its cool to shoot a .308 without hearing protection on.

This sounds like you're going to be cursing the filthy whore of a gun often...(kind of makes you feel dirty just typing those words.) LOL!

I did feel a lil sleezy just writing this post to be honest.

I don't have much experience with suppressors but would love to get a few when I move out of this communist state. I do know there is more maintenance involved with using suppressors and having to keep things clean. Have you tried Aguila .22lr subsonic ammunition? You will be pleasantly surprised with the quality and consistency.

I haven't tried that brand but I will. I have been using Eley ammunition which is very, very accurate as well as very expensive. I will definitely look into the Aguila for sure though, thanks!

Thanks ssg!

Very nice. Like you said it's very hard to get misfires from a 10/22. That thing was dirty. I'd love to pick up a RPR. Looking forward to the shootout.

Thanks! 10/22's are one if the best .22 rifles made for the money, hands down!
