GEN 5 GLOCKS

Glocks, where do I begin. I bought my first Glock many years ago, it was a used Gen3 19C. I wasn’t a fan of Glock back then but it was ignorantly based off of how I thought it looked (I was just getting into guns then and didn’t know any better. I bought it because the it was cheap and I wanted a truck gun that I wasn’t going to be too terribly heart broken if it got stolen. (Which it eventually did, and guess what…I was heart broken)

I bought gun, made sure it fired a mag, and shoved it in my glove box and carried on. Then I found myself on every range trip pulling it out of the glove box and firing a mag, then eventually several mags, then finally exclusively shooting the Glock. I eventually warmed up to the Glock and fell in love on how it shot and handled…its utilitarian, no questions asked look of it even grew on me.

Not too terribly much has changed since my Gen3, since my hands lean towards the smaller size, the Gen4 was a welcoming change, despite how blocky Glocks are touted to be, the Gen4 felt right at home for me…almost. I am one of those who complain about finger grooves because multiple fingers tend to bunch up on top of the groove instead of in them. Enter the Generation 5 Glock, sans finger grooves.

The gun feels great and took one more step towards “Glock Perfection”. With the finger grooves gone, my grip was now undisturbed. Now don’t get me wrong, the Gen4 was more than shootable, and the grooves didn’t cause any discomfort or issues shooting, but for a split second when grabbing the gun, I had to think about finger placement.

As of writing this post, Generation 5 Glocks are only limited to the Glock 19 and the Glock 17. With 9mm being the most popular Glock caliber chosen, I’m sure they will sell quite well for an initial offering.

List of changes on the Gen5 Glock:

nDLC finish on barrel and slide – a little more shiny than the Gen4 but more uniform

Ambidextrous slide stop lever for those who are wrong handed

Flared mag-well – not much, but effective in super scientific gun shop counter testing

Removal of the finger grooves

GLOCK Marksman barrel that includes a crowned muzzle.

The question I get asked alot in the shop is “Should I dump my Gen4 and buy a Gen5”. Despite my paycheck being dependent on the sale of guns, my general thought is, not necessarily but the again…did you absolutely need to upgrade your iPhone from the previous generation? Didn’t think so, but you did. The changes are welcoming and more noticeable from the Gen3 to Gen4 transition. I will be getting a Gen5 Glock 19 to replace my Gen4 but that Gen4 is still going to stay in my glove box just like I decided on years ago.
