Best 2018 Purchase

Today I was thinking back to what was the single best purchase I made in 2018 with regards to gear. There were a lot of things I purchased, from tripods, to batteries, even a Mavic Air drone and Ronin-S gimbal. But of all the things I purchased, the single best purchase I made was this little jewel:

Tascam DR-10L

The Tascam DR-10L has without a doubt, been my best purchase. A simple clip on digital audio recorder which runs on a AAA battery, has it's own micro SD card, come with the Lav mic and just works flawlessly. With an average run time of 8 hours continuous on 1 rechargeable AAA, it is plenty of time to capture audio for most any project. From weddings to conference sessions, this unit is up to the task. Without the concern of wireless interference, or a separate recording device, you can clip it on, start it, and not worry.

It has auto mic gain, a built in limiter, dual recording for a lower level duplicate, and is completely customize-able if you want to get fancy and set specifics. The power and record functions are properly hard to mess up, so that once it is started, there is no danger of accidentally messing up your audio capture by a pressed button or toggled switch.

I liked it so much I bought a second one to use as well. Easy to sync up in post with most editing software and match up to camera audio, this units are durable and functional. I've used it at weddings, interview scenarios, and pod cast style content.
