Hello stemians, Good Eve
Today I have decided to share some of the quick life hacks i discovered and learnt while growing up from television and surroundings.
Here we go....!
Mosquito is no doubt one of the most annoying insects. Those of us who stays at the south-south part of Nigeria or swampy area would understand when i say(annoying) and used the word (battle).
Mosquito is known by majority for spreading malaria but for us it is known for uncomfortable nights.
And here are the two quick tricks we use in battling mosquitos before incesticides were introduced to us
1. The scent leaf remedy (with Nigerian local lantern)
Scent leaf is a wonderful plant which is known for its peculiar colour and greatly appreciated for its nutritional and medicinal benefits. It is cultivated in Nigeria and known as Nnchanwu by the Igbos, Efinrin by the Yorubas and Daidoya by the Hausas.

Over to the procedure
The scent leaf remedy goes like this: Firstly you get a scent leaf or leaves and then you get a lantern, put the leaf/leaves on top of the burning lantern and place the lantern on a table or any suitable location and wait for the lantern to heat the leaf/leaves, believe me the rest would be history. P.S: This remedy has been proven to be working actively with no adverse effect, i.e you stay inside your house with burning lantern and scent leaf,it doesnt affects your health.
2. The Orange peels solution
I know some people woould be more curious to know how it works cause it sounds kinda funny..😂😂 Well, it goes this way: You peel the back of an orange(not with knife, hand peelling method). The after that you dry the orange pill under the sun and wait till night, now you set each peel on fire and quench, it would start releasing smoke then you place it at one conner of the house. Do same to other peels also and place at all four conners of the house and stay outside until it burns finish and subsides then you can enjoy your sleep. :-)
Conjuctivities aka apollo In nigerian pigin is a communicable disease is the inflammation of the outermost layer of the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelid. It makes the eye appear pink or reddish. There may also be pain, burning, scratchiness, or itchiness. The affected eye may have increased tears or be "stuck shut" in the morning. Swelling of the white part of the eye may also occur. Itching of the eye is more common in cases due to allergies.Conjunctivitis can affect one or both eyes.
You can read more about it here
Having conjuctivities as Nigerian child would surely kill your social life. No one would want to associate we you again, the isolation would be much so we tried everything to prevent it. Conjuctivities is like a seasonal disease in nigeria that strikes around Oct-Nov and sometimes December. And here are some quick preventive method we use: We get an Onion, pill a slice and rub it on the lower part of the eye below the down lashes and we work freely.😀 With no fear of contacting Conjuctivities And trust me it works
First Aid as we all know is the first treatment given to an injured individual before taking him/her to a medical personnel. So here is a quick hack we used while growing up as a means of first aid to stop bleeding using a popular leaf called bitter leaf
Bitter leaf
This kind of leaf is very familiar to some people but others may not have any idea about this wonder leaf. Bitter-leaf can grow anywhere unlike other leaves that only grow in certain places and temperature. These leaves flourishes anywhere they grow.
Read more about bitter leaf here
Bitter leaf as a life hack is one trick that am sure all Nigerians used while growing up, Once you have a wound and you cant control the bleeding, you simply get a bitter leaf or some bitter leaves, add moisture and rub with your both palm and squeeze out the liquid and let it drop on the wound and viola...! Your injury stops bleeding. 100% tested and trusted. :-)
Before i would start. I would like to give a 2minutes silence to Bella A bird that passed away some days ago :-(
And all thanks to @plojslydia for trying her best to save the Bella but was to no avail. :-( So this hack is writen personally to @plojslydia and dedicated to Bella
This hack has been tested and has proven to be working 98%, and here it goes. So if you come accross any unfortunate bird or a bird in cold, the best thing to do is to; firstly, get an empty tin bigger than the bird. Take the bird to a warm surface and place it on the floor then you cover the bird with the tin upside down, then you find one or two sticks and start hitting on the bottom which is faced up. Do it for about 5-10mins and check the bird, if no positive result you continue till you have one. Trust me it works. :-)
