My Twitter Hacked & Medium Suspended
As many noticed today, there was a slew of craziness and general hysteria around my accounts.
Unfortunately, this was the result of me being hacked by a malicious third-party.
GMail Hacked
After finally verifying my identity on all platforms, I was able to gain back control of my accounts. I noticed this alert sitting in my inbox from a few hours ago.
Mysterious Twitter IP Logins
I checked my Twitter log as well, and this is what I found:
According to a friend of mine that analyzed the IPs, this appears to be highly consistent with an API attack with some sort of 3rd-party login/backdoor into my account via Twitter's 0authkey
Medium Account Suspended
Today, my Medium account was mysteriously suspended, and it still is. I cannot find any notification in my e-mail address from Medium explaining why this was done.
My Medium page = medium.com/@cryptomedicated
If you visit, you'll see it's gone. I had over 200+ articles on there and was also ranked #1 in Bitcoin.
That was my first clue that something malicious was taking place, because there was no logical reason for my Medium account to be suspended as I had never posted anything malicious on there.
Twitter Account
Obviously there's been complete mayhem on my Twitter account.
There have been messages posted like this:
Clearly, this is something that I would never do in a million years and that I would never stand for. I've said this a million times before, but personal stuff has always been off limits for me.
This was clearly the hacker.
How do I know?
Check This Out:
So, it looks like the agenda was to:
- Hack my account
- Post some wild, inane things that would clearly garner a substantial amount of hate and that violated Twitter's ToS.
- Report my Twitter account.
As you can see from the screenshot above, they did just that. I was lucky enough to actually get my hands back on my account so that I could delete the offending content posted by the hacker before they had an opportunity to compromise things any further.
I have deleted all tweets up to the point where the hack took place.
Money / Cryptocurrency
One of my wallets was also hacked as well.
I did not want to make this publicly available information because that felt like the equivalent of saying "Hey! My stuff is hacked! There's a gaping vulnerability in my security, please come exploit it!"
Other Members of My Telegram Group Were Hacked + Harassed as Well
Here is correspondence from one of my members and a writer on my publication:
These messages were all sent from Spectre.AI and their leadership structure and that is where I believe the source of this attack came from.
After us not coming to terms on an agreement for me to produce work, they went on an all-out assault by posting fake screenshots, harassing and threatening different writers on my publication, and even threatening to compromise my account (which it appears they were successful in doing).
Here are other threats that I received today specifically as well:
There's also a video of additional impersonation attempts that was taken by another member of my team (will upload separately for space reasons).
Resolution
Fortunately, I've been able to get all of my platforms under control now.
I think that this is a major lesson in the fact that shit can happen in this space, and it unfortunately happened to me.
I was a victim of a lot of ill intentions and I believe that this is due primarily to the fact that I've taken on the role of 'whistleblower' in this space.
I've been threatened and warned multiple times, and it appears that the opposition has finally been able to crack through.
However, the accounts are back under my control and are not compromised at this point in time either. So, after re-securing my account - I am ready to proceed forth as usual with providing in-depth, quality content for all those in the crypto space.
Thank you.
Keep up the good work! Don't let them break you. I recently came across your various channels and really appreciate your content. It is very helpful and informative.
