Bitcoin, Porn and the future of Cyber Security

in hacking •  7 years ago  (edited)

We have all been hacked!

John Mcafee speaks about the current situation and future of cyber security and especially as it involves hackers, smartphones, cryptocurrency wallets and........PORN????

I recommend watching at least from 10:15 to 27:10 if it is too much to watch the whole video:

In Romania February 2017, before the d10e conference, John McAfee speaks about how our smart devices are spying on us. That every free porn site serves as a portal for installing software that can and does remotely access your smart device and record key strokes. This places your cryptocurrency wallet on your mobile device in jeopardy.

According to him, the BIG HACK has not happened yet, but will happen in one fail swoop. As millions of wallets and bank accounts are accessed and depleted all at once.

As if that isn't enough gloomy news, he claims that twelve world powers have grid technology kill switches which can remotely shutdown a nations entire power grid at the push of a button.

Pretty bleak stuff.

My takeaway?

  • don't go to porn sites. (Maybe pickup some vintage magazines if you are otherwise addicted.)

  • Expect that, through free porn sites(or free apps, or facebook), all of your passwords are compromised. And change them regularly. (Not through a mobile device)

  • Use mobile wallets and mobile banking as infrequently as possible.

  • Keep the majority of your crypto wealth offline, not in a software wallet installed on your phone.

  • Keep your 'nest egg' or retirement accounts in seperate accounts that you don't access from a mobile device.

  • Acknowledge that your smart device is spying on you. Turn it off, cover the camera, and practice conversation discipline as much as you can. And if you can't....don't be surprised when the worst happens.

  • read "1984" again. Are we already into 1985??

I had this video suggested to me on YouTube with a publish date of 9/7/17. Only after some research did I find the original video. I hope you all still find this relevant. AND LESSON OF THE DAY?.... Do your own due dilegence and dig a little before you retweet, resteem or share the newest news feed. I would have looked pretty stupid if I hadn't caught that and just put it up as I thought I had it.

Hope you are all having a great weekend!!

Nice job in sharing relevant content with the Steemit community.

I think this qualifies as @originalworks
Thanks!

I agree!

I wish more original posters of videos (@crypt0 I'm looking at you) would include this much detail. Instead I don't watch their content or upvote their posts because there is no way I can watch every 20 min video that sounds interesting from a one line title. Summaries like this a necessary and helpful!

John McAfee says a lot of crazy shit though. I like him as a crypt-evangelist and he is a great personality with plenty of charisma, but some of his claims just don't pass the smell test.

I can see that! He seems like a personality that likes saying things that 'only he knows'. And maybe why I believe some of his claims here is I have basically suspected such activity, in apps and unscrupulous websites, for a couple years now.
Who knows....til it's too late...right?
Peace

Maybe you oughta remove the nsfw designation!! You might scare some of your followers! :-/

Okay, I changed it!!! Thanks!

This is very interesting and scary stuff @em3.
Do you think our security can be invaded through our smart phones even if we don't use porn sites?

Thanks for sharing :)

It is possible. Maybe one of the free game apps you have installed. Or what about www.pixabay.com?
They offer free photos that I use for my posts(that I used for this post). Could they have a hidden hack? I don't know.

But it is very possible.

I learned a long time ago: "There is no such thing as a free meal."

Indeed. I agree. Everything is possible.
Thanks for the reply :D

Just don't do the porn, get married, and practice making babies with the wife. Keeps you happy, her happy, and your wallet safe. Win-win!!

Right!!!?!

RIGHT!

Great post with a very informative video. Thanks for sharing with us. Upvoted and resteemed!

Thanks!!! I really appreciate it!

Peace!

It was back in 1999 that a friend told me that this day was coming. It's one of the reasons I dont even own a smart phone. And for 17 years, I don't post anything in chat or text or private conversation that I would not be comfortable with it being broadcast to the entire world. It's a shitty way to live -- but I'm glad that I got the heads up at the time. My friend was a founding member of the Electronic Freedom Frontier out of the Bay Area of San Francisco.

Thats good!!!
I am sure that has kept you from having 'Facebook morning after regret' like so many others have had.

Yeah...I have been full submersion smart phones for 7 years now....and would be lost without mine....and thats no way to live either!!!

Bold new world!?? Eh? XP

Good looking out... Hope everyone stays secure... 💳🔐

Crazy scary but really not surprising. For people who have their eyes open and are willing to look just a tiny bit below the surface, and accept that maybe there are some crazy things going on in the world it makes a lot of sense. The porn thing is brilliant, it's the biggest industry on the internet, perfect place to sneak stuff like key stroke recorders, glad I'm not into that stuff.

Sound advice, under any circumstances.

Thanks for this information. I heard that now is d best time to invest on cryptocurrency.. ? Is there any reason for that?

@sbamsoneu
As with any 'investment', don't risk more than you can lose. Plan on a 5 year term(but be willing/ready to sell sooner if need be.

So...is now a good time to invest in crypto? Yes, probably. 6 months ago was much better. 18 months ago was MUUUCH better. And 5-7 years ago was the BEST time.

But the market is still growing and devevloping. So, yes, probably, now is a good time.

As long as new money is pouring in... it is a good time.

As long as the currency you invest in doesn't crash(a flaw is found, or it is hacked on a blockchain level, or its transactions become SLOW and super expensive).

With Bitcoin between $3500-4000 and you can invest and hold for 3-5 years, you will probably do very well. But investments have risks.

It could be found out tomorrow that Segwit introduced a flaw into BITCOIN that now makes it worthless....stuff like that can happen.

Best to you!!!
Peace!

I saw this post featured on the Daily Qurator and came to check it out. If you are really worried about McAfee's warning/prediction, you could also have one device for surfing porn and another device for accessing sensitive financial data. Just make sure not to confuse the two and make sure one if off before the other one gets turned on.

i love john. he's the boss. say's things how it is. straight talking. no bullshit.

I resisted smartphones for some time.

I have finally relented. However, I treat it as if it were a CIA agent in my pocket, even when it's off.

The fact is that McAfee is right about surveillance, apps, and backdoors. I not only don't use it for online banking, I don't have a bank account. I don't only take care in what I communicate with it, I take care in communicating at all when it is present.

I know I am able to be tracked with it, even when it's off. I can be heard, seen, etc. I don't have free games, view porn, etc., because I have long known that if you don't pay for a service, you are the pay for the service.

It is a spy in my pocket, and were it not essential to have communications capacity, I wouldn't have it at all.

McAfee is THE MAN!

I'm in trouble. I only have a mobile at the moment :(
