Almost everyone likes to watch movies to have some entertainment amidst their bustling lifestyles. But, there are some who watch movies to get inspired. Here we bring to you a list of top 16 must watch movies on hacking or hackers’ life. These movies are of great interest for hackers as well as for the security people to get inspired and thrilled. These movies might not teach you how to hack but, are still fun to watch!

  1. Live Free or Die Hard (2007)
    The fourth in the Die Hard series, Live Free or Die Hard, depicts a scenario where a hacker played by Timothy Olyphant (of Justified fame) takes down nearly the entire U.S. infrastructure in an attempt to transfer trillions of dollars from the Federal Reserve to his account.

    The Fifth Estate is an unauthorized account of Julian Assange and WikiLeaks. Cumberbatch plays a believable Assange as a egotistical, idealist that is out to change the world. Few Americans know that Assange is a famous (or infamous) hacker in his native country of Australia. He broke into the Pentagon, Citibank, NASA, and Stanford University, among other facilities, before being caught.

    Blackhat (2015) Blackhat is newly released movie by Chris Hemsworth. In this movie hackers hack Chinese nuclear power plant to start nuclear reaction. Simultaneously, they also hack the stock exchange and steal million of dollars from the bank.

    A freelance computer hacker breaks into secret government contractor and downloads a program. He must choose between his own curiosity and the lives of his friends.

    The film follows Edward Snowden, an American computer professional who leaked classified information from the National Security Agency to The Guardian in June 2013.

    Takedown (also known as Trackdown) is a B-grade movie—a fictionalized and sensationalized account of the tracking and capture of probably the most infamous U.S. hacker, Kevin Mitnick. Based upon the book and written by his nemesis, Tsutomu Shimomura, the story tends to glorify Shimomura. Mitnick operated in the 1980s and ’90s and eventually went to prison for a couple of years. Now, he is a highly paid IT security consultant, speaker, and writer.
  1. Hacker (2016)
    Working for an online criminal organization, a young Ukrainian hacker (Callan McAuliffe) launches a personal vendetta against the entire banking system after his mother loses her job.
