NLP Secrets - Understandig Visual People

in hacks •  6 years ago

Did you ever have a conversation with another person in which both of you are trying to explain each others point of view, but it seems like you're talking in different languages and you simply don't understand each other?

I experienced this problem many times until I learned a simple communication hack, talking in the words of the other person to make it simple for him to understand.

The best way to understand another person is by trying to experience the world through his eyes.
Each person is different and has a different perception of reality, NLP(Neuro Linguistic Programming) offers three main types of people: people that see, people that hear, people that feel/sense.
Each of these types communicates in a slightly different manner and the ability to understand which of the types is standing in front of you will make it much easier to talk and deliver a message that will be understood easily by the other person.

In this post I would like to explain the way that the seeing People percieve the world and communicate.
People that see are called visuals, exactly as their name states this type of people uses mainly their eyes to experience the world.
The world of the visual is a world of beautiful forms, bright colors and shining stars.
The visuals have a pretty well developed esthetic sense, they are usually well dressed with high attention to details and colors.

The visual uses his eyes as his dominant sense and usually will examine thoroughly any new person with scanning motions.
In conversation visuals use visual words like pretty, ugly, shining, blazing, light, dark, colors and many other visual words.

After a couple of sentences you can easily pick up someone is a visual from his choice of words and if you're not sure you can always ask the visual to describe you something.
When asked about the weather the visual will use words like the sun is shining, the sky is gloomy, dark clouds are gathering or any other visual description.

Once you figured out the person standing in front of you is a visual, use words and describe things in a visual way, as if you were drawing a picture for him. Explain how things look and use visual metaphors.
When you speak to a visual in his own language he will have a much easier time understanding you.

Next week I will talk about the people that hear, the audials.

Thank you for your time.

With love.

Eugene
