Waves of Rain Backing Westward From Coastal Low

Low pressure is developing slowly offshore underneath a dying upper low that is sitting right overhead. The result has been bands of rain being thrown back westward over Long Island and there are some heavy downpours coming ashore in Suffolk County. There are also some possible low top thunderstorms coming ashore. There have been lightning strikes noted along the South Shore from Fire Island to Southampton. This continues into this evening until the low can start pulling away to the northeast. After that skies will clear out as the satellite loop shows dry air not that far to our west. So it is a rainy afternoon and evening commute making for slick roads and restricted visibility. Temperatures are in the raw 50s.

The good news is that the longer term pattern relaxes a bit so we can not only by some nice weather, but the sea breeze will be limited to the immediate coastal areas on the South Shore over the next 3 days. Sunshine on Tuesday should take temperatures into the 70s.
