Keldamuzik: My hair story

Our hair is a reflection of ourselves because it is personal and public. A bad hair day equals a bad day: when a woman’s hair is too thin, too rough, too dry, falling off, or turning grey, it affects her self-esteem and feminity. There is a strong connection between hair and self-esteem in all cultures, races, and religions. Your overall confidence will improve and allow you to live a more fulfilling life.

I love my hair, although I’ve always had issues with it always being made fun of and never could style my hair; I love it so much. At the age of four, my mom put a perm on my hair when she was not supposed to. My hair started thinning, but it grooved back extremely thick when I turned six and seven. I’m talking about being so thick I had to take painkillers to get through it. Anyway, my hair has always been difficult to deal with. I remember in high school, during PE, we would have a semester of swimming, and every time I came home, my hair would start breaking off due to the chlorine. The water would still get in my hair even if I wore swimming caps. I must’ve lost a gang of hair but still had so much.

When I started modeling and acting, I remember at the time. I had a manager who said we’re going to get you out of that ponytail, Kelda! I would always wear my hair in a bun or small ponytail because I didn’t know how to style my hair, and my mom would only take me to the salon maybe once a month for a relaxer, but of course, when you exercise, and you play sports and do other activities you sweat that all out. I am glad that I started getting my hair braided and wearing partial weaves and wigs you don’t understand how it’s a lifesaver for some of us! Our hair is beautiful, but it’s a chore, and you have to take your time with it.
It’s not like we could just wake up in the morning, wash our hair, leave it wet and go on with our day. We have to blow dry it or let it air dry and put moisturizers in it to hold the style and apply heat to our hair and other things. I want to say I love your hair, Ladies! Your hair is what also makes you beautiful. And even if it’s difficult for you to work with your hair, find a close relative or friend that can help you out. It’s funny because many of my friends help me with my hair and of course.
I have stylists too, But that’s only when it’s showtime. Other than that, if I’m going out with friends, I usually ask them to do my hair for me because I don’t know what I’m doing. Leave it up to me. I’ll probably leave it in a bun as I did in high school. I’m all for natural hair and for wigs or whatever it is that you want to put in your hair as long as you feel comfortable with it and it’s manageable. Right now, wags and waves are manageable because you can apply any chemical or heat that you want to it, and it’s not your hair, so who cares if it gets damaged?
Hair is a multibillion-dollar industry. The average hair care expenditure is around $50,000 for women for their entire lifetime. Anyway, love your hair, take care of your hair.
