One of my favourite days of the year is upon us and although I may be a bit old for Trick-or-treating, I will never be too old to dress up and have some fun. Halloween has long been a festive time in my household, I still remember my mother dressing me up as a skunk for my very first Halloween when I was 4. Since then I have never missed a Halloween and don't plan on missing one anytime soon.
Now that I am living on the other side of the world it is evident that Halloween does not carry the same enthusiasm in Asia as it does back home. Specifically in Korea, I would guestimate that less than 1% of the population takes part in Halloween activities and the majority of those are students who attend English Academies. Going out in Costume on Halloween day is sure to get you more than a couple stares, lots of smiles and laughs and depending on the "scariness" level of your outfit, maybe even a few screams of horror.
The Scary Clown
Inspired by last years reports of people across America dressing up as clowns. Now my makeup skills are lacking these days so I requested the help of expert makeup artist @matildakim. She kindly obliged and after several hours of sitting still, the end result was well worth it.
With wig, outfit and lenses all in place, I was ready for a night of terror. My first victim was a small little boy who was unfortunate enough to run into me on the subway. I could see the look of horror in his eyes as he immediately burst into tears.
Thankfully though the fright soon wore off and by the time we got off the subway we had become friends and even posed for a few photos together
He and his younger sister even became brave enough to try on different parts of my outfit as you can see them with the knife and wig in the picture above.
Halloween really is a holiday that everyone can enjoy, it brings out the kid in all of us, if we just let it. Later in the night I ran into a female accomplice to compliment my scariness. Two of the scariest costumes to partake in Busan Halloween night. It was a blast and already looking forward to new and amazing costumes in the future.
Thanks again to @matildakim for her amazing makeup job, the costume would not be the success it was without your artistry.
Happy Halloween to all you Ghouls and Goblins.
This is pretty sweet. Yeah - if I was that kid I would be afraid, but I am glad he warmed up to you. I love that last shot - 2 quality costumes. Thanks.
