What Is Halloween About? Do You Celebrate Halloween? What Does The Holiday Mean To You?

Autumn is a time of shedding and gathering, the preparation for the coldest and darkest time of year. It is an eerie time not just because of a holiday; it is because of the changing temperatures and changing winds, the reminder of death and harvest. Life becomes anxious and spirits can be tested; so how did Halloween begin?

To understand the meaning of Halloween we have to look at the origins and history of the traditions associated with this controversial holiday. What started out as ways to protect against evil spirits evolved into a lighthearted mockery of such beliefs in the scientific age. Now we know that some today not only believe in evil spirits but engaged in rituals inviting such wickedness into their lives and thanks to Wikileaks we learn how power corrupts.

There are many videos and documentaries about the history of Halloween and if there is any importance to the celebration of any holiday it is to teach children that they may edify and pass on traditional understanding to future generations. There are many people who say that Halloween should not be recognized or celebrated as this is the devil's holiday and more evil is practiced at that time. If you have researched anything about satanism, spirit cooking and pedogate you understand that this is more real than anyone wants to believe but I would like to focus on children and how a holiday like Halloween can help us teach children about scary things, real and not real.

This is good youtube channel that teaches the English language as it discusses American Holidays.

Here is a video warning that Halloween should not be celebrated especially by Christians. I have concerns about those who are not Christians. Christians are making fun of scary things, that's the understanding that I have as a follower of Jesus' teachings. As Christianity spread, local and pagan customs were edified and given new and higher meaning but for the sake of all sides, you can check this out.

Here is a generic video shown on mainstream television, whatever you think of Halloween, I hope you enjoy the holiday and stay safe. Bottomline for me is do things in moderation, do what is enjoyable as well as a teaching moment, for is not that what all life is about....learning and growing each and every day.

Well, Christians turned Samhain into Halloween, so I'm not sure why they wouldn't celebrate it. All Saints Eve was the celebration, until they moved it to overshadow Samhain.

I'll be trick or treating with my kids. Maybe, in the future, I will teach them a tradition where we take stock of the fall harvest and prepare for winter, which was the original intent of the festival. And, we'll light a bonfire and enjoy some goodies.

Hi @deanlogic Sounds like you have the right idea about Halloween. I love all the seasons but I especially like autumn. Have a fun and safe trick or treating. Thanks for commenting.
