    Yes, this system was used by the Australian soldiers on the Gallipoli Peninsular during their retreat. They were timed to go off periodically as the troops withdrew to leave the enemy, (Turkish and German) to believe they were still entrenched. It worked a treat. I have written a post about it a couple years ago. I actually have one of the rifles used in the First World War but Australian Troops...A Lee Enfield .303 (SMLE)
