KF 101(Korean food intro)-3 “Hanjungshik”

Hello ~

So today, I will talk about Han-jung-shik (한정식). As I already told you in the former KF 101, this food is for the nobility and royal family, or powerful people. As western food has the format of the course menu, traditionally, Korean dining is to put most of the dishes on the table at the same time. Of course, some food which is only tasty when it is warm can be served later or so on, but anyway it comes with lots of food at the same time.

Traditionally, server helps to put the food on your plate if you ask (especially for the king), but nowadays, it is your duty hehe. Well basically it is the table so you can just stretch your arm and get it or you can ask your friend to get you the dish. So let’s have a look.

Yup, this is it! This is for 2 people portion, and many restaurants do not even have a room on the table, so they make the tower on the plate. However, i think it is too much, unless you are food fighter. I like this type of quality over quantity. WEll still it looks a lot hehe.

🙂 Good thing about this place is that if you ask for the refill for certain plate, they will do for you. Of course if it is the main or extra menu, it would be difficult, but other than that, all the side dishes are able to be refilled.

We have a expression of “Table legs are about to be broken.” It is because people offer so much food.

Especially South West part of South Korea is so famous for the food. It is just good. Many Korean people also love to go there and they always have a hard time breathing because they ate too much haha. They are just amazing with cooking from generation to generation. When I was kid, I wanted to marry a girl from that area haha (So whenever I visit her family, they would give me lots of good food) .

Next time, I will post about “Ssam-bob.” We have a unique culture of folding the food with all kinds of vegetables.
