One thing I love about Korean food is the simplicity of it all.
You want meat, you get meat.
You want veggies, you get an assortment of fermented veggies that are packed in nutrients and seved with every meal.
Here is Hanwoo (pronounced Han-Ooo) that means Korean Beef. Han, or 한 refers to Korean or 대한민국 (한) and Woo (w is silent) , or 우 meaning cow or beef in Hanja (한자). This literally translates into Korean Beef.
You may be familiar with Wagyu in Japan, with is the same Hanja character of 우.
That's your language lesson.
Here are the pictures.
There's 육회 which is raw beef or beef sashimi. It's pretty much Beef Tartare that is popularized in French cuisine.
Here's a picture.
As you can see above, they crack open a Quail egg which you have to pour on top and mix. The taste is something that words can't describe. It's mushy, cold, packed with flavours of garlic and whatever spices they put and the high fat flavours of the quail egg blends well with the saltiness of the 고추장, or red pepper paste that the beef is mixed with.
As you know, salt and fat in combination open up your dopamine neurotransmitters and release pleasure from deep inside your brain. Hence, my cravings to this raw beef party! It's expensive though and can set you back about $20 for like 100grams in a normal restaurant.
The above picture is of a fine cut of Korean beef. I think it's the tenderloins, but I could be wrong. I was devouring it too fast to remember the cuts we had.
