The Power of Now

We have often heard it from so many people that there is no perfect time to do something. Now is as good a time as any. The illusion of the perfect moment and perfect time is exactly that, an “illusion” and nothing else. Imagine how much more successful and fulfilling our lives would be if we all took a little bit more initiative and seized the day instead of waiting for that perfect moment that almost never materializes. In short, there really is no time like the present.

Waiting to be better prepared at some future time and letting go of an opportunity that is in front of you is really not going to get you anywhere. I can tell you from experience that putting things off until that so-called perfect moment arrives will only ever result in missed opportunities and an unfulfilled life.

This is exactly what author and motivational speaker Eckhart Tolle has emphasized in his book “The Power of Now.” While on the one hand, it teaches us how we can seize the day and move away from the paralysis caused by our tendency to wait for the “perfect moment.” It also teaches us a fair bit about how to move beyond anxiety, stress, disappointment, and pain. Using a combination of ancient teachings and modern thinking, Mr. Tolle teaches us how we can achieve balance in our lives by “living in the moment.”

This book is especially for those individuals who may feel like they are stuck in the past or unable to get out of their own head. In the same way, there must surely be people out there who are sort of waiting for happiness and joy to knock on their door. Rather than going out to get what they want, these people get stuck in a negative and defeatist frame of mind full of self-limiting beliefs. Then, there are those who feel lots of stress and anxiety on a daily basis due to a number of reasons such as the pressure of studies, difficulties at work, problems in their relationships with others etc. In short, if you have a mental block of any kind that is holding you back from reaching your full potential or you constantly worry about the past or the future, then this book is for you. Of course, benefiting from the tips and strategies suggested in it is entirely up to you and what action you take to make changes in your life after reading it. But, what is certain is that the book is a treasure trove of knowledge and arguably one of the finest personal development and self-help book ever written. It has sold millions of copies all around the world and has been translated into more than 25 different languages. The man behind this seminal piece of work, Mr. Eckhart Tolle, is one of the most popular spiritual authors and speakers in the world today.

One of the most important lessons and takeaways from the book is let go of the past and kick it to the curb. Because the fact of the matter is that whatever it was that has you all flustered and stressed out, has happened and it is done and dusted. There isn’t anything you can do about it (unless your life has an undo, redo, or delete button) now. It’s in the past and it is gone now. So, just get over it and move on before you mess up the rest of your life. I understand that the nature of every event is different and many people have some really painful memories of past events that they struggle to let go of. But, whatever that bitter memory is, do you think it is worth ruining the rest of your life for? You really don’t need to be so incredibly hard on yourself.

In all honesty, it is quite easy to get stuck in the past while dwelling on it. Perhaps you lost that job you really loved. Maybe you went through a messy breakup or divorce and just can’t get over your former partner despite the ugly way things ended between the two of you. Or perhaps you just wish that things had gone differently in a particular situation. Whatever the case may be, you have become rooted in the past and are just waiting for things to happen with a fleeting hope that something good will come your way. Well, guess what? Life doesn’t work that way. Nothing that is good and worthwhile is ever going to come easy for you.

So, just get out of that defeatist mindset and take control of your life. Read up on the highly effective tips and strategies suggested by Mr. Tolle in his book. Adopt them and implement them on a regular basis. We are pretty sure that you will see some good results and your life will witness a wonderful transformation.

This book is just the perfect one. You analysed it well. A lot of people are still stuck in their past and find it hard to let go. Truly, now is the time to move and let go. Be wise and strong for opportunities knocks only few times

I am not sure that I would read this book but I have to agree with the message (at least what I got of it from your explanation - thanks!). It reminded me of a very famous quote (doha) from an Indian Saint:

The best description of the present moment Mr Tolle wrote" it is what it is, otherwise it can't be". At each moment there are literally no past or future, they are nothing more than thoughts in our heads. They are inaccessible. Only by paying attention to our thought process without judgment, they start to calm down, lose their energy, and allowing the present moment to emerge in our awareness.
As you said The Power of Now has the potential to change the way you perceive time and consequently life completely.
Thanks @jasimg for spreading such knowledge. :)

Procrastination is worse when it becomes an addiction and leaving it can cause all sort of uncomfortable feelings. Doing things right now, at this very moment in time is probably the best way to overcome that feeling of procrastination, it comes with a price though. It’s gonna hurt like hell to change.
