Tom and Jerry are one of the popular cartoon characters we were so engrossed with when we were kids. Even now, they’re mischievousness and happy hunting thing can still be viewed is a remarkable part of my childhood. We had so much fun as we watch the two play tricks against each other. Just two playful cartoon character that never fails to give us a crunchy laugh.

Until one day, on a very quiet one hour session of a boring subject, an instructor catch my attention with I thought was a non-sense question “Who runs greater, Tom or Jerry?” In my thought I was like “Is that even a question? When you put bases with the size and potential, of course it’s Tom”. As expected, everyone answered Tom but puzzled students were surprised how our instructor comes up with Jerry as an answer.

Now the explanation is this, if you base it with what they are and how they appear to be, Tom would be greater for he is a cat ,more “faster” than a cat but never “greater “than a mouse. Why? It is because Tom runs for food (selfish interest) while Jerry runs for his life (a necessity), there is a big difference which give us the logic upon the greatness of Jerry’s run. Tom as well is an illustration of an envy and discontented person who wants to make Jerry perish in order for their competition for the whole thing to end and the favors would be all his. Jerry is a picture of a person who would be willing to live without harming other people. The bottom line is that Jerry runs for his life; for him to live. Tom in contrary runs because he never value Jerry’s life, it’s a self-interest to knock him dead for his own will. Jerry is less fortunate when it comes to hunting food, while everything about tom is so easy leaping from one place to another. Jerry struggles before he could reach what he needs. Jerry has surpassed lots of obstacles before achieving what he wants but in the end, he is happy and contented. But tom in the other hand, no matter what he has, he is never contented and continue to pull Jerry down in order for the mouse to fail. He is happy to see other fail which makes him feel superior.

It is same with life, some people who is fortunate enough to have a convenient life is never contented and always complains, aspiring for more than what they have. Ambition is never bad, but too much of it is not good. Sometimes in life, we never notice that we are already stepping someone else for us to reach the top. Too much ambition sometimes leads to greediness and envy reasons why you ended up as heartless person not minding others’ feeling. They will love to benefit with others expense. A heart full of insecurity is full of anger and emptiness, a bitter heart full of greediness and hunger wanting for more without contentment and happiness. People who achieve their dreams the hard way were proud and happy. They are happy not because they are on the top but because they are never envy but blissful of what God has to offer. Unlike others who achieve their goals the easy way but have destroy people along. If we look around, some people who have not much but they were wearing sweet grin in their faces and a sparkly eyes filled with joy for they have enough and contented with what they just have. It is enlightenment that the greatness of a man is never measured with the amount of cash he puts inside his pocket or the extravagance of his belongings. The man’s greatness is measured on what’s inside his heart and what he aims in life.
