Die Zahl der Hardware Wallet Hersteller ist seit 2017 kontinuierlich gestiegen. Dies ist nicht zuletzt deswegen positiv, da die beiden führenden Hersteller Ledger und Trezor somit unter Druck gesetzt werden, ihre Produkte noch weiter zu verbessern und sicherer zu machen. Zu diesen Ledger- und Trezor-Konkurrenten zählt auch das taiwanesische Unternehmen SecuX, unter dessen Modellen besonders das SecuX V20 hervorsticht.
SecuX V20 – The world’s toughest hardware wallet?
The number of hardware wallet manufacturers has risen steadily since 2017. This is positive not at least because the two leading manufacturers Ledger and Trezor are under pressure to further improve their products and make them safer. Among these Ledger and Trezor competitors is the Taiwanese company SecuX, whose models include the outstanding SecuX V20.
Warum brauche ich überhaupt eine Hardware Wallet?
Jede Wallet beinhaltet die Private Keys, die dafür notwendig sind, eine Transaktion in einem Kryptowährungs-Netzwerk durchzuführen. Wer die Kontrolle über diese Private Keys hat, der hat auch die Kontrolle über das dazugehörige Guthaben. Ein böswilliger Hacker, der sich Zugang zu dem Computer oder Smartphone, auf dem sich die Wallet befindet, verschafft, kann die Private Keys aus der Wallet entnehmen und damit das Guthaben in seine eigene Wallet transferieren.
Eine Hardware Wallet schützt hiervor, da die Private Keys auf einem externen Gerät gelagert werden, das zum Erstellen einer Transaktion verwendet wird und nicht von einem Hacker geknackt werden kann, da der zugrundeliegende Sicherheitschip dies verhindert. Eine Hardware Wallet verfügt meist über einen kleinen Display und minimalistische Eingabemöglichkeiten, da die Transaktion weiterhin vom Computer oder vom Smartphone aus beantragt und von der Hardware Wallet nur bestätigt wird.
Why do I need a hardware wallet at all?
Each wallet contains the private keys that are necessary to carry out a transaction within a cryptocurrency network. If you have control over these private keys, you also have control over the corresponding balance. A malicious hacker, who gains access to the computer or smartphone on which the wallet is located, can remove the Private Keys from the wallet and transfer the coins into his own wallet.
A hardware wallet protects against this, as the Private Keys are stored on an external device that is used to create a transaction and cannot be cracked by a hacker, as the underlying security chip prevents this. A hardware wallet usually has a small display and minimal input options, as the transaction is still requested from the computer or smartphone and only confirmed by the hardware wallet.
Grundfunktionen der SecuX Hardware Wallets
Das junge Unternehmen SecuX bietet 3 verschiedene Hardware Wallets an, die sich von den Grundfunktionen her ähneln, aber mit zunehmendem Preis auch ein höheres Maß an Sicherheit und Benutzerfreundlichkeit mit sich bringen. Allen drei gemeinsam ist, dass sie über das gleiche Display mit Touchscreen verfügen, über ein Web-Interface bedient werden und 7 verschiedene Kryptowährungen sowie alle ERC-20 Token unterstützen. Bei diesen 7 Kryptowährungen handelt es sich um Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Groestlcoin, Litecoin, Ripple und Binance Coin. DASH soll laut Hersteller im September / Oktober diesen Jahres per Update verfügbar gemacht werden.
Basic functions of SecuX Hardware Wallets
The young company SecuX offers 3 different hardware wallets, which are similar in their basic functions, but also bring a higher level of security and user-friendliness as the price increases. What all three have in common is that they have the same touch screen display, are operated via a web interface and support 7 different cryptocurrencies as well as all ERC-20 tokens. These 7 cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Groestlcoin, Litecoin, Ripple and Binance Coin. DASH will be available in September / October this year through an update.
Das Web-Interface erlaubt das Freischalten der verschiedenen Kryptowährungen als Applikationen auf der Hardware Wallet. Dies setzt den physischen Besitz der Hardware Wallet voraus, wodurch die Guthaben des Benutzers selbst dann sicher sind, wenn der Computer kompromittiert wurde. Das Empfangen von Kryptowährungen funktioniert ähnlich, wobei das Display zusätzlich einen QR-Code anzeigt, der mit einem Smartphone für eine Transaktion eingescannt werden kann.
Die Unterschiede zwischen den verschiedenen Modellen beginnen jedoch schon, wenn es darum geht, die Wallet mit dem Computer zu verbinden. Während das W10 nur die Möglichkeit bietet, ein USB Kabel zu diesem Zweck zu verwenden, gehen das W20 und das V20 mit integriertem Bluetooth noch einen Schritt weiter und ermöglichen damit auch den unkomplizierten Verbindungsaufbau mit einem Smartphone. Diese mobile-freundliche Lösung wird noch dadurch befördert, dass die beiden Modelle, anders als das W10, mit integriertem Akku geliefert werden.
The web interface allows the activation of the different cryptocurrencies as applications on the hardware wallet. If a transaction is to be sent, the cryptographic address is entered into the web interface, whereupon the transaction must first be physically confirmed via the hardware wallet before it can be sent. This requires physical possession of the hardware wallet, which ensures that the user’s coins are secure even if the computer is compromised. Receiving cryptocurrencies works similarly, with the display also showing a QR code that can be scanned with a smartphone for a transaction.
However, the differences between the three models begin when it comes to connecting the wallet to the computer. While the W10 only offers the possibility to use a USB cable for this purpose, the W20 and the V20 with integrated Bluetooth go one step further and allow an easy connection with a smartphone. This mobile-friendly solution is further enhanced by the fact that the two models, unlike the W10, are supplied with an integrated rechargeable battery.
Vorreiterrolle des V20 im Bereich der Sicherheit
Trotz der Bluetooth-Verbindung eignet sich das V20 eher weniger dafür, im Alltag mitgenommen zu werden, um damit im Geschäft eine Transaktion durchzuführen, ist es dafür doch zu massiv. Dies ist jedoch Teil der Funktionsliste des V20, dessen Ummantelung das entscheidende Plus an Sicherheit bietet, durch die es nicht nur seinen beiden Vorgängern, sondern auch vielen anderen Hardware Wallets gegenüber überlegen ist.
Angriffe auf Hardware Wallets setzen meist voraus, dass der Angreifer das Gerät selbst gestohlen hat und manipulierend auf die Elektronik einwirkt, da Software-Angriffe auf die Sicherheitschips nicht möglich sind. Der Aluminium-Rahmen des SecuX V20 verhindert allerdings, dass die Wallet mit einem Schraubenzieher oder etwas ähnlichem geöffnet werden kann. Um den Rahmen zu entfernen, müsste eine Bohrmaschine verwendet werden, die unweigerlich den Sicherheitschip zerstören würde, wodurch das Gerät vollkommen wertlos werden würde.
V20 leads the way in the field of security
Despite the Bluetooth connection, the V20 is less suitable for being taken along in everyday life in order to carry out a transaction with it in business, as it is too massive for that. However, this is part of the V20’s feature list, whose sheathing offers the decisive security advantage that makes it superior not only to its two predecessors, but also to many other hardware wallets.
Attacks on hardware wallets usually assume that the attacker has stolen the device himself and manipulates the electronics, since software attacks on the security chips are not possible. However, the aluminum frame of the SecuX V20 prevents the wallet from being opened with a screwdriver or something similar. To remove the frame, a drill would have to be used, which would inevitably destroy the security chip, making the device completely worthless.

Dieses ermöglicht das Aufbewahren der Wiederherstellungsphrase mit Hilfe von feuerfeste Metallbuchstaben, die jeder Extremsituation gewachsen sind.
