Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim will undergo surgery on Friday at the Straub Medical Center in Honolulu to clear a blockage in an artery in his lower extremities. Kim had been originally scheduled to have the surgery done at Stanford Medical Center. The purpose of the surgery is to alleviate claudication, or too little blood flow to the legs, caused by the narrowing of arteries supplying blood to the lower extremities.
Mayor Kim was a pivotal force in the latest disasters that the Big Island of Hawaii faced. Mayor Kim is a pull no punches, no nonsense leader, that holds himself and his staff to a high standard.
Mayor Kim has consistently demonstrated his caring for the people of the Big Island. We wish him well and hope the surgery goes well.
