The summit of Haleakala was closed due to the roads being impassable due to snow and ice. Six inches of snow fell at the summit of Haleakala. The conditions are very hazardous at the summit. This may be the first time in recorded history that snow has fallen at this low a level. It is the first time snow has fallen at a State Park as Polipoli State Park on Maui is blanketed with snow at the 6200 foot level. The last time snow was recorded on Maui was in 1952.
