Auntie Sonya's Sour Cream Pound Cake
My old neighbor's aunt was a wonderful baker. She used to make a winner sour cream pound cake. She gave me the recipe many years ago and I've baked it often for big gatherings as it's easy to make, easy to double, triple, or quadruple, as well as delicious. [My old neighbors were Americans with American, English, Chinese, Portuguese, Hawaiian, and Korean heritages; and the aunt was an AKA, American of Korean Ancestry, 3rd generation, just like our Vice-President and a half more of a generation than is our President at 2 1/2 generations.]
Here in Hawaii, this cake is a perfect contribution to your favorite candidate's coffee hour or fundraiser. Food is important at political fundraisers in Hawaii, in a way it isn't on the continental US, because food is, well, just very important in local culture. Woe be to the candidate who has "junk" food at their fundraiser. People will take that away from it and spread word of it into the community.
"Eh, how was _____'s fundraiser?"
"Junk the food."
You never want people to say that about your fundraiser!
Here's Auntie Sonya's recipe:
Ingredients
1/2 block butter or (must be) Imperial magarine
1/2 cup sugar
4 large eggs
1 t vanilla
8 ounce carton sour cream
1/2 cup salad oil
1 box (must be) Duncan Hines cake mix (yellow, butter, devil's food, chocolate, lemon or other flavor of your choice)
[Option 1: using yellow or butter cake mix, add in a tablespoon or two of matcha for a match sour cream pound cake.
Option 2: make 2 separate mixes of different flavors then swirl to make a marble pattern in the pan before baking.]
Instructions
Mix in order of ingredients. For big loaf pans use 2 pans sprayed with oil or prepare pans with butter and flour. Pour 1/2 of mixture in each pan. Can also use a 9x13 inch pan instead.
Bake at 325 degrees for 40-50 minutes for big loaf pans or less time if using a 9x13 inch pan.
(Note, if using those small mini loaf pans, fill to about 1/2 of pan and bake for 20-30 minutes instead.)
thanks for shearing..nice food.
