Powerful 6.9-magnitude Earthquake Rocks Hawaii’s Big Island, Aftermath to the Vocanic Lava Eruption.

Oh wow! I just felt that one! For those of you that are concerned, I am fine and in a safe area! Felt the earthquakes and that is about it for us. House shook and windows rattled a bit but nothing broken. I was at a friend's cabin earlier for the other one..I was getting something out of the truck bed, when the truck started shaking and rolling a bit forward. We were down the hill and looked up to see what the cabin was doing. The whole cabin was swaying back and forth for about a minute. It was actually pretty cool because when you are on tons of huge lava rocks, you feel the shaking of the rocks. Nothing caves in unless it gets hit with hot molten lava or there is a weak crack in the lava .

Hey, not to worry, everyone has been evacuated from the danger zones. Hawaii has one of the best Emergency Prepardness Teams anywhere. Besides, we needed a bit of excitement and Pele is giving it to us. Most folks here head to the lava flows to get photos versus running from. There will be people from all around the world headed here now to see and film the new eruption. Great for local business! As the Hawaiian's say "Pele's gonna do what Pele wants to do, so don't try to stop her.

My friend and I were just in this same area and even drove through Leilani Estates yesterday. We went to one of the "unknown to tourist" hot ponds just outside a lava tube. We then headed out to the famous "Uncle Roberts" and hung out there for awhile listening to the live band and checking out all the cool vendor booths. We then drove to the volcanic park to the lookout so we could see the glow of the crater. Boy did we get a show. Pele was spewing out pretty good. I found it odd that we did all this just yesterday just hours before she erupted. We had intended on getting an air B&B for overnight near kalapana. Good thing we decided to drive home. We would have probably been stuck there or possible out walking around on the lava. That would have been a bit hot on the feet. I'll post some photos of my own later as I am helping my friend move some stuff still. Anyway, here is a good copy and paste for you if you want to read more, that or just watch the news.. My daughter and family knew about the eruption and earthquakes before I did and were calling me early morning.

PAHOA, Hawaii -- Hawaii's Kilauea volcano sent more lava into Hawaii communities Friday, a day after forcing more than 1,500 people to flee from their mountainside homes, and authorities detected high levels of sulfur gas that could threaten the elderly and people with breathing problems. There were no immediate reports of injuries, but at least two homes were damaged by the eruptions. Later on TODAY, two earthquakes rocked Hawaii's Big Island.

After a week of earthquakes and warnings, the eruption that began Thursday threw lava into the sky from a crack in a road and sent another line of molten rock snaking through a forest. The activity continued Friday, with reports of lava spurting from volcanic vents on two streets. Areas downhill from the vents were at risk of being covered up.
The community of Leilani Estates near the town of Pahoa on the Big Island appeared to be in the greatest danger. Authorities also ordered an evacuation of Lanipuna Gardens, a smaller, more rural subdivision directly to the east. But scientists said new vents could form, and it was impossible to know where. Civil defense officials cautioned the public about high levels of sulfur dioxide near the volcano and urged vulnerable people to leave immediately. Exposure to the gas can cause irritation or burns, sore throats, runny noses, burning eyes and coughing. Volcano expert Paul Davis said the gas occurs during the melting process. "It's sort of like you've injected ammonia into all your nose, into your breathing area, into your throat," Davis told CBS News. Hawaii County Mayor Harry Kim tweeted Friday reminding residents the evacuations were mandatory.

I just got a call from a friend who had to evacuate his house early this morning. Three homes have been destroyed by fire from the lava. He actually saw the lava spewing in the air and slinging lava rocks. He woke up to a roaring sound, looked outside and saw the eruption. He can't get back to his house, so he is coming here to my home to crash until he can get back to his property.

Thank God all my friends are safe and He kept us from staying in that area last night. It always behooves us to listen to that little voice that tells us we need to change our plans. This is why I live my life without fear. I have faith in the unseen forces that steer me from harms way.
