According to Health.com, every year, 12 million kids suffer from lice. If you've ever tried, you know that it can be a pain in the neck to get rid of them. Many products are available to rid yourself of lice, but only a few work well enough. If you or your child have lice, you should take some steps to solve the problem.
Some of the products you'll find on the market work very well, but you have to know what you're looking for and be okay with using chemicals on yourself. In this article, we'll discuss three natural methods you can use instead.
1 - Comb your hair with a special thin comb
This method has been around for a long time, but for good reason. It works! No matter how many lice you have, you need to comb your hair frequently and thoroughly with a special thin comb. You'll be able to quickly remove the lice eggs from your head with this method.
Although this combing method works wonders, it won't kill the lice. The purpose of the combing is to get rid of the lice eggs which attach near the base of your hair follicles.
If you're hopeful that you can blow dry your hair to get the lice off, I'm afraid you're out of luck.
In addition to the combing, you'll also need to use another technique to ensure you are killing the lice, so they can't produce more eggs.
2 - Olive oil
Olive oil is one of the best home remedies to rid yourself of lice. Many people reported that when they used olive oil for a period of 3 days to 1 week, it helped a lot in reducing the lice of their head. Albano-Krosche is one of such people. In his book, he recommends to use olive oil, and it's the part of 21-day course mentioned in his book "Head Lice To Dead Lice."
All you need is to apply the olive oil on your head and then use a special thin comb to comb your hair (this is an important step). Experts recommend applying the oil before bed. It is also helpful to wear a shower cap while the oil is in your hair because lice can survive for hours without breathing. This shower cap will prevent them from breathing properly which will help kill them off. Continue this process for a week and see the results for yourself.
3 - Vinegar
There's not enough evidence from the clinical point of view for the effectiveness of this remedy. However, the theory is that the acetic acid in vinegar dissolves the sticky glue that is used by female lice to keep their eggs to hair shafts.
Regardless of which method you try, you must use a special comb with bristles very close together, and you should rinse off the comb after each use. The reason being - even if you manage to kill off all of your life, if their eggs remain, they'll continue to thrive in your hair.
I hope you can try these three natural methods to help get rid of your head lice.
Great tips for folks who like keeping bushy hair like myself. And most importantly for ladies
