We need food. We get angry (Hangry?), cranky, rude etc when we are hungry, not to mention that we would eventually die. We cry when we are hungry (literally as we are babies). We fight for our food, if necessary. We do whatever it takes to get it. But what one person considers food may not be so appealing to another.
As every person is different and so is the diet of different people. We choose it unconsciously or consciously dependent on our attitude towards food. Broccoli, donut, apple or pizza. Some think healthy food is important and some just don't give a damn. It's just food!
The decision to eat healthy can be made easily when you a fighting for your life. But when everything seems to be tolerably good, then why bother? The answer could come from looking at the quality of your life. If everyday things like going up from stairs or squatting are obstacles, you have something to think about. Not getting any exercise is followed by uncountable health problems. Not to mention the mental problems like hating the body of the person looking back in the mirror. It's no different for skinny people. You may eat whatever you want and not gain any weight but the unhealthy body still stays unhealthy until you take care of it. The easiest way to tell if you are healthy is to make note of how many times per year are you sick.
Even if you are interested in a healthy diet it can be overwhelming when living in the information age. The opinions on a healthy diet split in uncountable directions. There is even information about how fruits are bad for you. Fruits, the food of Heavens, is condemned unhealthy by some. As the very nature of people is to be lazy (unless otherwise needed), the easiest way at this point is to surrender and order takeaway from the closest fast food chain. Nevertheless, surrender is easier, the good news is that the number of health-conscious people keeps on rising.
Sometimes we forget that hunger can be a choice of the mind. When I was a kid I was told a story of a German couple. They lived in the time of war and the food was scarce. They decided to go on a fast. Meaning they only had water and nothing else. The couple survived while the neighbors, who were getting more food, were dying of hunger. The story lost its magnificence when I heard about people who claim to live years on just drinking water.
The power that people have surely is amazing. Let's tap into it more.
How hard can it be to have a healthy diet anyway, if we are capable of surviving fasting?
