A healthy diet helps to maintain the overall health. A healthy diet provides the body with essential nutrition such as fluid, nutrients and adequate calories. A healthy diet contains a variety of different foods so that the body can get the nutrients. You should include fruits and vegetables including wholegrains and choosing more fish, poultry, beans and pulses. You should reduce red meat, fat, sugar and diary foods.

Choose Carbohydrates such as vegetables, fruits and beans. Avoid white bread, white rice, pastries, sugared sodas and other highly processed food. Choose good protein such as fish, poultry, nuts and beans. Choose a fiber-filled diet which includes whole grains, vegetables and fruits. Avoid sugary drinks, and limit intake of juice and milk. Limit the use of salt. Drink more water instead of other beverages.

Get calcium from low-fat or nonfat diary products and fortified foods such as some orange juices and soy drinks. It is hard to consume enough vitamin D from foods, and getting it from sunlight is risky. If you drink, do so in moderation. While alcohol in moderation has heart benefits, higher intakes can lead to a wide range of health problems. Even moderate drinking impairs your ability to drive and many increase the risk of certain cancers.

Quinoa Fruit Salad

Ingredients

  • 2 cup cooked Quinoa
  • 1 Mango, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup Strawberries, quartered
  • 1/2 cup Blueberries
  • Chopped Mint leaves for garnish

For the Lemon Vinaigrette

  • 1/4 cup Olive oil
  • 1/4 cup Apple cider vinegar
  • Zest of Lemon
  • 3 table spoons freshly squeezed Lemon juice
  • 1 table spoon Sugar

Directions

  1. To make the Vinaigrette, whisk together Olive oil, Apple cider vinegar, Lemon Zest and juice, and Sugar in a small bowl; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine Quinoa, Mango, Strawberries, Blueberries and Pine nuts. Stir in Lemon Vinaigrette.
  3. Serve immediately, garnish with mint leaves.
