Sleep is a naturally recurring state of mind and body,characterised by altered consciousness relatively inhibited sensory activity and inhibition of all voluntary muscles and reduced interaction with the surrounding.
Sleep is important for various aspects of brain function. This includes Cognition,Concentration, Productivity and performance.
Sleep is very essential to having a Healthy immune system. A lack of sleep can cause sickness in many different forms.
The more sleep you get the easier it is to focus during the day and get important things done.
When we sleep the brain recharges, cells repair themselves,body releases important hormones.
Sleep need vary for different age groups but adults need 7-9hrs of sleep.
Sleep deprivation leads to impaired cognition,higher levels of anxiety,stroke risj,impaired risk for diabetes, increases symptoms of depression,increased risk of breast cancer,increased risk for heart disease,weight gain.
To improve sleep,we must do the following
-Avoid caffeine, alcohol,nicotine prior to bedtime.
-Keep a regular schedule.
-Exercise early
-Follow a relaxing bed time routine.
-Go to bed to sleep,not work.
-Use the bed to sleep,not work
-Make your bedroom a comfortable place to rest.
-Avoid naps.
-Follow doctors guidance on sleep medication.
-Change your electronic habits
