Jaundice :

When free or conjugated bilirubin accumulates in the blood, the skin, sclera, and mucus membranes turn yellow. This yellowness is known as jaundice.

Classification :

  1. Prehepatic or haemolytic jaundice.

  2. Hepatic or Heapatocellular jaundice .

  3. Obstructive or Cholestatic jaundice.

Cause of jaundice :

A. Prehepatic or haemolytic jaundice :

  1. Malaria

  2. Sickle cell anaemia

3.Hereditary spherocytosis.

4.Thalassemia.

  1. Drug and other toxins.

B. Hepatic or Heapatocellular jaundice :

  1. Hepatitis.

2.Cirrhosis.

3.Weils disease.

4.Cancer.

C. Obstructive or Cholestatic jaundice :

1.Gall stone in the bile ducts.

  1. Cancer.

3.Congenital malformation.

  1. Pancreatitis.

5.Parasites.

6.Pregnency.
