Oh No…It's malodor (bad breath)!!! treatment + resources

in health •  7 years ago  (edited)

Bad breath, everyone knows the phenomenon. An unpleasant breath is characterized by a dirty mouth odor, either "stinking out of your mouth". The strange and annoying of a bad or smelly breath is that you do not smell or hardly smell your own breath. Almost 25 percent of the Dutch population is suffering from bad breath, but most of them are not even aware of that.

Because you are used to the smell of your breath, you will not smell or hardly smell it. You do not even have to notice your bad breath. The people in your area are therefore the ones who suffer from stinking out of your mouth. But do not be reassured because research indicates that family and friends rarely point each other on their smelly or dirty breath. Bad breath or halitosis is, in many cases, a "quiet" problem.

Here are some tips to prevent and treat bad breath with resources ...

Test yourself on a bad breath

bad breath1.jpg

Do not get into the causes and solutions for bad breath immediately. After all, you must know if you stumble out of your mouth and suffer from a dirty breath . You can easily test yourself for bad breath and dirty mouth odor using these tips:

1. Create a simple blow of your breath

Stretch the back of your tongue over the top of your hand or over a bandage. Allow the saliva to dry and then smell it. When the dried saliva stinks, your mouth odors also.

2. Ask a friend about the quality of your mouth odor

Ask a good acquaintance for his or her fair and unseen opinion. Your partner, father, mother, brother, sister or best friend can give you a fair answer. But then you need to ask and really want to know.

3. Do a halimeter test in the hospital to investigate your breath

Ask a halimeter test to a dental hygienist, for example, through your GP. A halimeter is a medical device that accurately indicates how many volatile sulfur compounds are in your breath. These sulfur compounds are the cause of a dirty mouth odor.

Causes of bad breath & smelly mouth odor

A continuous stinking breath is called oral halitosis. Before you can fix a bad breath or "out of your mouth" it's good to know how a dirty mouth odor or bad breath develops . Here's a list of the causes of dirty mouth odor ( source ) ...

1. Good bacteria (mouth flora) cause bad breath

Bad breath and the associated dirty mouth odor are mainly caused by "good bacteria" or mouth flora. These bacteria are present in the mouth - especially on the back of the tongue! When these bacteria break down proteins, they cause volatile sulfur compounds and thus an unpleasant odor. Especially mouth bacteria that settle in almond stones spread an extremely unpleasant mouth odor.

2. Poor oral hygiene can cause faint mouth odor

Even bad bacteria can cause a bad breath. The more bad bacteria in your mouth, the more you stumble from your mouth. A bad oral hygiene thus brings a smelly mouth odor. Toothpaste, plaque on the tongue and bacterial infections in the mouth or throat are so funest for your breath. A good oral hygiene can cause a bad breath.

3. Morning fetor can cause stinking breath

At night, much less saliva is produced in the oral cavity. That's nice, because otherwise you could stumble into your saliva during sleep. The disadvantage of low saliva production during the night is that almost everyone has an unpleasant breath / mouth odor / mouth air when getting up in the morning. This phenomenon is also referred to as morning fetus. If you drink a glass of water in the morning, the mouth flora of gram negative moves to gram-positive, reducing the bad breath.

4. Food can spread a smelly mouth of air

For example, if you are using garlic, onion, leek, anchovy, dairy or some spicy herbs and spices, a bad breath will result. In addition, halitosis is not associated with a temporary bad breath through food. At the same time, the flavor of nutrition remains longer in the oral cavity than in the other. You will not even smell your dirty breath through food because you get used to it soon.

5. Dry mouth is a common cause of bad breath

A persistent dry mouth is also called xerostomy, hyposalvation or "dry mouth syndrome." Hyposaliation involves a shortage of saliva. Insufficient saliva causes a lack of saliva enzymes. A shortage of salivary enzymes almost always causes a bad breath and dirty mouth odor.

6. Diseases & medications as a cause of a bad mouth odor

Bad breath is also often caused by rotten teeth, smoking and drug use. Especially certain diseases, such as diabetes, immune diseases and certain gastrointestinal disorders may cause a stinging breath and a dandruff odor. Drugs such as beta-blockers, antidepressants, moisture-reducing agents, blood pressure lowers and corticosteroids can also cause bad breath.

To treat bad breath: How to prevent dirty mouth odor

bad breath2.jpg

Bad breath, dirty mouth odor, or "sting out of your mouth" is preventable, treated and remedied . In particular, bacteria are the offenders in the event of a smelly breath. Cleaning the mouth, killing the bacteria and removing a diet for these bacteria is a good start. Herewith all the necessary tips to remedy and treat a dirty oral air ...

1. Drink water to treat bad breath

Drink plenty of water and moisten your mouth regularly. Water prevents a lack of saliva and the associated dirty air. Do not drink any coffee, alcohol, dairy or sugar-rich drinks if you often suffer from a bad breath. If you always have a dry mouth due to a chronic lack of saliva, your GP may prescribe a saliva substitute (artificial specimen).

2. Antibacterial products to remedy a bad breath

Use a combination of sound antibacterial oral hygiene products. Especially mouth spray, tongue cleaner, goggle and antibacterial mouthwash (Listerine®, Duodent® and others) are effective against a bad mouth odor. Please note that antibacterial agents must contain active, bactericidal or inhibitory substances such as chlorhexidine or cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC). Means with peppermint or menthol do nothing against bacteria, but only temporarily spoil the foul smell of your breath.

3. Brush teeth to treat bad breath

Poet your teeth twice a day. This miracles against dirty mouth odors. Bad breath gets away when using a toothpaste that kills bacteria and counteracts volatile sulfur compounds. The more often you brush your teeth, the better you will fix your unpleasant breath.

4. Tissue your teeth to fix a dirty breath

Clean the spaces between your teeth with floss wire, toothpicks and / or a toothbrush. In the spaces there are at least as many odor-producing bacteria as on the dental surfaces. Especially foodstuffs between your teeth are highly susceptible to bacteria. Flossing or scratching can help you to correct your bad breath.

5. Scrape tongue eliminates a smelly, dirty breath

The place in your mouth where most bacteria are located is usually the tongue. Especially the part of your tongue that is located at the back of your throat is usually a build up of bacteria. Therefore, use your toothbrush or a special tongue scraper to clean the back of your tongue, especially if your tongue is white or yellow!

6. A dentist can treat your smelly breath

Preferably check with the dentist every six months. A dentist controls your teeth not only on holes (tooth decay) but also on general tooth decay (caries), tartar and tanderosis. A combination of these factors can cause a bad, smelly breath. If dental and gum problems are detected and corrected in time, a bad breath can be prevented or remedied.

Follow the above 3 tips to fix a bad breath, 6 tips to prevent a stinging breath and 6 tips to remedy or treat a dirty mouth odor. Do you still keep a bad breath or stink out of your mouth and have a date tonight? Treat your mouth odor then temporarily with mouth spray (peppermint hydrolat), chewing gum or peppermint.
