A couple of days ago I wrote an article about the dangers of birth control pills. But instead of only bragging about everything that is wrong with birth control, I wanted to give you some better options 😊 Some non hormonal ones to be precisely.
For more information about these certain methods; click the links. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH AND CONTACT YOUR HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONER BEFORE USING ONE OF THESE METHODS.
1. Copper IUD
The copper IUD affects the sperm and stops sperm from fertilising the egg and affects the transport of the egg in the fallopian tubes. It also changes the lining of the womb, making it less suitable for a pregnancy.
2. FAM method
Fertility awareness-based methods—or natural family planning—are all about tracking your menstrual cycle to determine the days that you can get pregnant.
I found this to be the most interesting method and although I’m not using it (yet) I bought a book to make myself more aware about the changes in the female body during her menstrual cycle.
If you’re planning on using this method I would really recommend you looking into a Lady Comp. This is a device that takes your (basal body) temperature every morning to predict your most fertile days.
3. Diaphragm
You insert the diaphragm into your vagina. Then it covers your cervix and keeps sperm out of your uterus. One super important thing to remember: For a diaphragm to work effectively, you need to use it with spermicide.
4. Condoms
They slip over the penis to prevent pregnancy and lower the risk of STIs by keeping sperm inside the condom and out of the vagina.
5. Sponge
The sponge works in two ways: It blocks your cervix to keep sperm from getting into your uterus, and it continuously releases spermicide. Think of it like a bouncer at the nightclub door to your uterus.
6. Female condom
Internal condoms work the same way that condoms do, except that you wear one on the inside instead of sticking it on a penis. They keep the guy's sperm inside the condom and out of your vagina.
7. Cervical cap
A cervical cap is a silicone cup you insert in your vagina to cover your cervix and keep sperm out of your uterus. One super important thing to remember: You need to use a cervical cap with spermicide for it to be most effective.
Great info. I was taking birth control pills from when I was 12 and hormone coil later. A year ago I switched to a copper coil and although my period came back (something I didn't have when I had the hormone coil), it was one of the best decisions I made. No more added hormones and I can surely feel the difference in many ways!

Thanks! Aaah that's great to hear 😃 Unfortunately my body didn't accept the copper coil and I had to get it removed. Do you experience heavier periods? If I may ask?

The first few months, but it is the same amount of blood as when I was taking the pill... although they last a day, sometimes 2 longer. On birth control pills my period was only 3 days, now it's more like 4 to 5. But that's fine.
