The child psychologist Leon Eisenberg, born in 1922 as the son of Russian Jewish immigrants, who was the scientific father of ADHD, and who said at the age of 87, seven months before his death in his last interview: “ADHD is a prime example of a fictitious disease”.(http://www.worldpublicunion.org/2013-03-27-NEWS-inventor-of-adhd-says-adhd-is-a-fictitious-disease.html”) This posses a very interesting question, and that is if ADD is man made or is it a lack of self control that has gone neglected by all that should be aware. The Article Multitasking or Mass ADD Sheds some light on the subject. This article ends up approaching this subject inadvertently, but does a good job at addressing one of the potential reason why people seem to be more and more distracted in today’s world. Let us begin.
Contrary to popular belief multitasking does not allow you to do more or accomplish tasks faster. It actually slows you down and can cause you to retain less details and facts. Stanford's Clifford Nass Stated that “Multitaskers are not better at anything, even multitasking.” Nass was able to determine this though his research conducted at Stanford University. For the research one hundred student were selected half high multitaskers and the other half were on the lower end of the spectrum of capability. He found out that the ones that where considered to be apt at multitasking focused poorly, remembered less and where more easily distracted . They also could not shift well from one task to another, and could not organize well. They could not figure out what was important and what wasn't. You may be thinking that this study may have had some byes or may have been conducted to bash on
multitasking . But the truth is the Absolute contrary. They started the study to find out what talent did people have that allowed them to multitask better than most and found out that they had none.
The problems that the high multitasking people have sounds identical to the problems the
people with so called ADD have. So wouldn’t this make it seem that ADD may be a learned disorder. That is some what condoned in our so called modern society. Which is why more and more young people are being diagnosed with it. It could be because our fasted paced culture and our lake of patents for any thing be causing this. That would make this instance a perfect example for cause and effect. By that I mean the cause of ADD Could be the almost constantly distracting and useless information inundated lives of a vast majority of people. I only for see it getting worse as more and more devices get added to our daily lives while more information is being shoved down our throats at a seemingly constant rate as we try to cram more into our day to day lives. These continued actions will only perpetuate the rewiring of the human mind in such a way as to try to keep up with this life style which would over time then make ADD the norm and make the current norm abnormal physiological behavior. Which then would be looked down upon by the masses as they try to do five different things at once as they forget what they were looking down on those people for.
Another issue with this lie is the medication that people have or are still taking, although it is not needed. Some of the side effects are, trouble sleeping: Stimulant ADHD medications can rev you up and make it hard to fall asleep. Nausea This is a relatively common complaint from people who take ADHD medications. Irritability and mood changes. Some people find that their medications make them tense and cranky. This is only a list of some of the side effects. The people that are exposing themselves to these drugs are only poisoning themselves for no real reason. When people take someone word because they are considered a doctor that only proves that a lot of people are followers and do not take the time to question people with authority.
