A new study reveals that rice grown in polluted locations can also develop mercury similar to how fish in polluted waters can develop mercury. Eating rice which is polluted might not harm adults so much but for infants with developing brains it is critical that their food be pure.
The researchers tested 119 infant cereal samples made with a variety of grains. The products were purchased from different regions in the U.S. and China. Rice-based cereals had much higher levels of methylmercury than products with no rice, suggesting that the grain is a likely source of mercury.
So the answer? Avoid products which contain rice based cereals to avoid the higher levels of mercury found in rice based cereals. In addition because blockchain technology exists perhaps something can be done to improve investigatory powers so that the supply chain can be thoroughly analyzed. Food supply specifically when it involves infants should be heavily scrutinized for impurity and blockchain technology can enhance transparency in this area.
It is funny to me how society can promote transparency in our social lives and in our finances yet allow the supply chain of food and other critical products to not be transparent at all. Secret ingredients should never be allowed in food for children. Nutritional data must be made available to all which means the era of secret recipes has to end if we want true nutritional transparency of the food supply.

Rice-based produces are also a higher source of Arsenic. Especially Non-California US grown rice since those fields are largely grown on old cotton plantations which heavily sprayed arsinic based pesticides.

It is already longer known that rice also is a source of arsenic. Some European Health Authorities issued already warnings for processed rice products like rice milk, rice waffles etc. which contain even more arsenic than pure rice. Since then I rinse my rice with water several times before I cook it. That should lower as well the mercury content.
