“Studies have shown that it can boost metabolism and help suppress appetite,” he says. “It’s such a great low calorie way to add flavor.”
He does recommend you seek out a low sodium type of hot sauce, as many can be filled with an excessive amount of salt.
In addition to metabolism and appetite suppression, The Mayo Clinic reports that capsaicin can be used to help ease certain types of pain. It has been found to help with arthritis, shingles and even some types of headaches. There are numerous types of topical creams, lotions, gels, patches and ointments that contain capsaicin as the active ingredient.
