A 55-year-old woman reportedly suffered a severe car accident and a serious injury to her leg.
This woman from Missouri, United States experienced a surprising side effect: her tongue blackened and looked hairy.
The New York Post reported on September 6, 2018.
This strange story began when the woman was hospitalized after suffering an injury that caused several wound infections.
The medical team then gave intravenous meropenem and minocycline antibiotics to fight the bacteria on their bodies.
But the treatment that is done causes oddity.
Within a week, his tongue turned black and looked hairy.
Suddenly he complained about the unpleasant taste in his mouth.
After being diagnosed, she experienced Black Hairy Tongue.
Although it sounds creepy, this condition seems harmless.

There is no real hair that grows on the tongue.

Conversely, the papilla or bulge that is on the surface of the tongue changes color.

This can be caused by dead skin cells gathered which bind bacteria, tobacco, or food substances which then change the color of the tongue
"Black hairy tongue is not a fatal condition. It is characterized by hypertrophy and elongation of the filiform papillae on the surface of the tongue. It also changes color to black and brown," said the New England Journal of Medicine report.

According to them, conditions like this only occur temporarily in the mouth and are not dangerous.

The most annoying of all, only the color changes on the tongue become black or sometimes green, yellow or white, and a hairy appearance.

The appearance of the hair on the surface of the tongue is also accompanied by several symptoms. Like, a sudden mouth causes a metallic taste, bad breath and a tingling sensation on the tongue.

In the case of this woman, the condition was caused by changes in normal bacteria or fungal content in her mouth after antibiotic healing.

However, it can also be caused by poor oral hygiene, dry mouth, tobacco, excessive alcohol consumption, eating soft foods that do not help rub off dead skin cells from the tongue or use mouthwashes regularly.

According to a World Journal of Gastroenterology report, there are 11 percent of people who find their tongues black and hairy in some places.

Fortunately, this blackened tongue condition does not last too long. Within four weeks, the tongue will return to the original color of pink. (New York Post)
