PEPTIC ULCER DISEASE

Peptic ulcer is defined as a sore that develops on the lining of the oesophagus, stomach or small intestine. Peptic ulcer is mostly in to forms.

  • The gastric ulcers which occurs on the inside of the stomach.
  • The duodenal ulcers develops on the inside of the upper part of the small intestine (duedonum)

Symptoms of peptic ulcer

  • Nausea
  • Heart burn
  • Bleching, bloating and sometimes constipation
  • Stomach ache, commonly burning stomach ache

When peptic ulcer becomes severe, it displays more severe symptoms. These symptoms includes;

  • Vomiting, or vomiting blood
  • Dark stool
  • A change in appetite

Causes of peptic ulcer
Ulcers can be developed from several causes which includes,

  • A bacteria; Helicobacter pylori is a bacteria that lives in the mucous layer. It causes inflammation in the stomach linen.
  • The use of analgesics; Regular use of certain pain relievers can be harmful on the stomach walls. Examples are aspirin and other non steroidal anti - inflammatory drugs

Aside from the causes of peptic ulcers, there are also some risk factors that poises you to peptic ulcer

  • When you smoke, you are at risk of developing a peptic ulcer disease
  • When drink alcohol
  • Eating of spicy foods increases your risk of peptic ulcer
  • When you have untreated stress

How do you prevent yourself?

  • Work on your diet, avoid spicy foods
  • Protect yourself from infections
  • Reduce your intake or usage of pain relievers
