No one will love waking up with sweat at midnight. To figure what may be the reason for night sweats, it is vital to learn all the probable variables. So, here are few things to know why do I sweat so much when I sleep.

The first & most obvious reason is temperature & overall comfort with your sleeping environment. Now, heat isn’t the single environmental factor for night sweats. Humidity also has a key role. Other probable contributors for night sweats include tight pajamas, general discomfort, using old mattress, bedbugs, loud environment and heavy blanket.

Next, observe your health. Have you changed your diet recently or feeling fatigued? Then this can be a reason why you are sweating at nights. Other causes could be fever and flu.

As said above, menopause could often cause night sweats. This is more often termed as “hot flashes”. This happens when there is an unexpected drop in production of estrogen, which causes confusion in your hypothalamus (which is your body's thermostat). Therefore, causing skin temperature to increase by 6 degrees, instantaneously at times.

Now if you are a man, who had just read the above point and feeling happy and blessed that you are safe from all this, then think again. You could still suffer it but not with hot flashes you silly. It can be when you are lacking testosterone or if you are consuming testosterone-blocking drugs. At such times, you can have similar effects.

What Else Can Trigger Night Sweats?

Though the causes and primary reasons of night sweating has been clearly explained above, there are still few more things I need to answer to your question – why do I sweat so much when I sleep.

Prostate cancer medications are not the lone prescriptions to leave your bed sheets damp every morning after you wake up. Even other drugs can give a similar effect. In fact, few can raise up heart rate, cause blood vessels to dilate, thereby triggering heavy sweating.

Many different medications are reported to set off night sweats, however, antipyretics / fever-reducing pills are very common. Whenever a person suffers flu or fever, he or she often tends to take acetaminophen or aspirin. Though it is effective to reduce fever, it can cause heavy night sweats.

Drinking alcohol, especially at nighttime is one of the reasons why people sweat during nights. Even though some wine prior bedtime may help you have a good sleep, research have always proved that alcohol-induced sleep is always less restful & you start becoming to prone to night sweats and headaches.

Yet another possible reason why you are sweating in sleep is that you eat a lot of spicy foods. Though it doesn’t give an immediate discomfort when you eat it but it shows it effect only after you have it digested. Spices like cayenne pepper and chilies can raise your body and skin temperature.
