How to Use Diatomaceous Earth for Healthy Hair, Nails, & SkinsteemCreated with Sketch.

Food grade diatomaceous earth enhances hair, nail, and skin health.

Diatomaceous earth (DE) is filled with the fossilized remains of ancient phytoplankton called diatoms. These creates are a rich source of silica. As a building block for collagen, this mineral is an essential component of the human body's structure, especially bones, teeth, skin, tendons, blood vessels, nails, and hair.

Silica is well respected for its ability to enrich hair and clear skin and is added to a vast amount of beauty and cosmetic products! It is also taken internally to provide the system DE is the cheapest and easiest to use silica supplement we have found.

How to Use Diatomaceous Earth for Healthy Hair, Nails, & Skin

Hair Loss

Thinning hair may indicate a silica deficieny. The human body naturally sheds hair, and naturally regrows about the same amount it loses each day. However, it grows drastically less if the system is silica deficient. If you experience thinning hair, it may be that you are losing more than you regrow each day, and silica supplementation may reverse your condition.

Try mixing 1 teaspoon food grade diatomaceous earth into water or juice and drinking it first thing in the morning.

Lackluster Hair or Weak Nails

Again, silica deficiency may be the cause of your less-than-shampoo-commercial hair and/or weak nails, and taking food grade DE internally could remedy that.

Try drinking 1 teaspoon food grade DE thoroughly mixed in water or juice in the mornings. You may work your way up to 1 to 2 tablespoons a day.

Skin Conditions

Silica is vital to healthy connective tissue, which is the key to skin that resists wrinkles. For young, supple skin, you can encourage your body's collagen production by supplementing with the silica in food grade DE. Again, you can drink 1 teaspoon food grade DE in juice or water to start your day, and may take up to 1 to 2 tablespoons.

For irritations, acne, and blemishes, you can make an easy mask by mixing food grade DE with a little clean water. Smear it on the skin, allow to dry, and wash off with clean water. You can add coconut oil or essential oils like lavender or geranium for a more luxurious cleanser.

A note: only FOOD GRADE diatomaceous earth is safe for consumption, as it has a relatively low crystalline silica content. Pest control grade or filter grade DE products are not meant for internal use.

Awesome, thanks for your support!

Very interesting read, thank you.

I have also heard it can be used as an insect repellant, but not sure about the truth of this. :-)

You're welcome, @devonking! Yes, we've used it with great success to eradicate bugs. Here's some info on using it for fleas: https://steemit.com/health/@gardenofeden/flea-problem-diatomaceous-earth-is-a-natural-safe-effective-and-cheap-option-to-rid-your-home-garden-and-pets-of-fleas

Thanks for the additional info. :-)

Health is wealth! Life is really quite miserable without it.

THANK YOU for this !!! 😍

You're welcome!

It's great for cleansing the body.

I like to use it every few months.

Glad you're already in the know on how awesome DE is, @capitalpink!

Great post with awesome advice for skin and wrinkles :)

Thanks @cyberblock!

wow didn't know you can use it for hair too! WOW!

Yes it gives the hair strength and could reverse hair loss that is due to silica deficiency!

they say if you mix it in a drink it can be used for cleansing as well.

Yes! Taking it internally is great for parasites as well as getting rid of heavy metals and other toxins. We'll cover detox in an upcoming post.

thanks for the link, it's very helpful :)

You're welcome!

I didnt know about this,. Thanks for the info :)

You're welcome, @lgfurmanczyk! Hope you're inspired to give it a try~*~

it can also be used for getting rid of fleas in your home. sprinkle on carpet and vacuum up. " At a microscopic level, diatomaceous earth powder contains razor sharp edges that make it highly effective as a bug killer. The bugs ingest this porous powder and get severely dehydrated from inside out"

some say you can put on your pet .. I chose not to in case it would dehydrate him...

Oh yes be careful how much you put on the carpet..what happened to me is another story ..haha

Yes we definitely recommend DE for fleas!
Some of our inhabitants have used it on their pets with great results, but they do take care to give them a bath after a few days.

Glad you posted this helpful information for us all.

Thank you, @senor! We're happy to help!

As a guy with long hair, thank you! I plan on trying this asap.

Great! You'll find that DE has a ton of other uses as well, so getting some is a wise but cheap investment. P.S. Your username is entertaining, @pancakesex.

This stuff is truly amazing, about as natural as u get and super cheap! I take it almost every day!

It really is quite amazing, and there are TONS of uses for it! Cheap, natural, and multi-purpose make DE a staple for health & home.

Agreed!

Careful, diatomaceous earth and silica are not materials you would want to get into your lungs.

Sure, breathing in clouds of dirt is not ideal for health. Definitely be wary and perhaps use a face mask when dealing with filter grade or pest control grade diatomaceous earth, but food grade DE does not pose the same threat to the lung tissue as other grades as it has a much lower crystalline silica percent composition.

When I posted this reply I did not notice the mention in the post about the difference between food grade DE and DE for industrial purposes.

I have handled diatomaceous Earth several of times having worked in science research labs for a number of years and it is something to be handled in a fume hood, or by wearing a mask while handling. Since that is the primary context in which I have handled DE, I had to express a 'warning' to individuals handling DE outside a lab setting without safety measures.

I do not know enough about food grade DE to comment. Doesn't sound any worse than talc. More power to you if it makes your meat suit shinier in a way that does not compromise its well being. I wouldn't mind trying food grade DE at least once for these purposes.

Thanks for your input & concern, @ztetrahedron369. We find food grade DE to be super beneficial without being harmful, and hope you will find the same if you decide to give it a shot!

Never heard of this but sounds great!

I hope I can find it in Germany here as I have been experiencing crazy hairloss the last couple of months!

Thanks!😉

Hair loss can be caused by a number of things, silica deficiency is one possibility, as is stress. If it is nutrient deficiency, then DE can help! We can make arrangements to ship DE internationally if you are unable to find a more local source, @athenajade.

Okido! Thanks!

will look into it some more and might get back to you on this! :) Any idea how much it'd cost me more or less (totally so also shipment etc.)?

Depends on the weight of DE you want, as well as your exact locations. Shipping is the highest expense, as DE itself is relatively cheap. 1 pound could potentially be ~$25.

I see! Thanks for the update!!! :)

Can Diatomaceous Earth be used as a binder? Kind of like activated charcoal and bentonite clay? Does it have the same binding properties ?

If you are asking about its ability to detox the body @searchinghealing, then yes DE is excellent for pulling heavy metals and other toxins out. As far as science goes, not really sure if it acts by the same mechanisms as activated charcoal or bentonite clay, which are also 2 great substances for cleansing.

cool stuff thanyou!

You're welcome, @jibi333!

Good information. I had bought a big bag of DE for my daughter, who thought had hook worm. I had a bunch left over and was wondering if it was okay to take regularly.

Most people here in our ecovillage take it every day.

Thanks for reminding me to start using DE again - great for GI system too.

You're welcome, @emurphy! Yes, DE has an incredible amount of uses in the body and around the home for enhanced health. And it's super cheap and easy to use!!!

I first learned about DE at the @gardenofeden ! such epic info!

Yes, DE is great stuff! Grateful to share sustainable options for a life of true thrival with you and all, @apollomission!

I've used DE for so many things the list would make a whole post, but these were some very good ideas. It's good to see you're back on Steemit bro. Missed you!

Yeah, the list of uses for DE goes on and on and on!
Thanks for the support, @luzcypher! Great to see you doing well on Steemit, you add so much value here~*~

Very interesting. I had no idea there was a food grade version of diatomaceous earth. It seems to have somewhat similar effects as haliotis diversicolor/abalone shell used frequently in Chinese herbalism, perhaps because of a similar mineral/silica content.

I'm a eczema sufferer, and DE has worked wonders for my skin. It worked so well in fact, that I stopped using the topical ointment prescribed by my dermatologist. Thanks for the post!

thanks for this! Definitely going to get some and give it a go!
